The next Galactic Civilizations II print ad design

The second transport, is away!

The new full page advertisement is done and being sent off to PC Gamer, Computer Gaming World, and Computer Games Magazine this week.

We decided to take a bit different approach.  If you flip open your favorite game magazine, the typical ad formula (which our first ad followed)  for a one pager is pretty artwork at the top with a paragraph of text at the bottom with a couple of screenshots.  This time, we're doing something that's a lot more "busy".  We wanted to highlight the ship design feature since players seem to really like that feature a lot.  We are also getting ready to produce a 2-page spread series of ads.

Update: Penny-Arcade, Gamespot and other ads now up too!

GR, others, We ARE advertising on Penny-Arcade. RIGHT NOW.  We had decided we were going to do that before we had even started the project.  We love Penny-Arcade.

I've given my word-of-mouth advertisement to a great number of people. Heck, my word of mouth gave you sales in GCI and AP with somebody. And that person subsequently saw GalCiv2 and has it right now, preordered from EB Games. I also showed somebody else? And this guy's the type to normally "try a game out" before buying [if you understand what I mean] and he is flat out scrounging money to buy it without that little preview. That says something, I think.

I'm also thinking of putting a link-advert in my Civilization Fanatics' signature, too. Hopefully it'll help.

Hey! What's with the fine print? Something about making us your b1tches?

Seriously, great looking ad. And a hearty "good job" to the marketing weenies. I take back (a lot of) the nasty things I've said about them.

Any chance of getting the ad in better resolution so I can use it to convince some friends? The type is a wee bit hard to read ...

I agree! It looks great but I wish it was BIGGER!

I first heard about GalCiv2 after reading a review of one of the Beta releases in GameSpot. It looked like it could be the Space 4X game I have been searching for, for years! I took a chance, pre-ordered the direct download, and became a beta tester. There is still room for improvement (that's what Stardock Central is for) but GalCiv2 deserves to become a classic game like Civ4 and I hope it does as well or better commercially. GalCiv2 gets my vote for strategy game of 2006!!!

And anyone who doubts this has never put two and two together, where the star system Tycho is one two, and the star system Gabe is the other

You might consider advertising in Game Informer. While it's not the greatest magazine it has a fairly good subscriber base due to being pushed on everyone buying used games at Gamestop. (I believe it's #1 in raw subscriptions for gaming rags.)

Any chance of getting that ad in a high quality PDF?

Awesome ad, but I'm not sure how it'd appeal to those who aren't into this style of game, especially by choosing the outcome of some of the more advanced screens.

Maybe you could've done a play on the ship design by having slight variations of a base model, then a final one that looks outrageously ridiculous with a big red circle around it.
