Can't Rename Star Systems???

I was just wondering why you can't rename star systems? I can rename the planets but not the star. Is this a glitch or was it just not written into the game? If you can rename stars, how?

Hmm...looks like I took it out, but I don't remember why.  I'll add it to my list of stuff.

Cool, I was wondering why this option didn't carry over from GCI. Didn't fret about it too much since I have so many other options to consider.

I think renaming starnames should be added, too. Sometimes my star's name is "custom star". I looks vey stupid to me and i cant change it.

You can set that up when you are configuring your custom race. Once the game is started however, you're stuck.

My guess is because the star doesn't belong to you like the planets do. What happens to the names of the planets for which the AI has taken over and 'named'. They'd be the name of the old star I would assume.

Really though since this is a single player game the AI isn't going to bitch that you changed their star's name.

*LOL* You took the words right out of my mouth. Since it is a single player game, the player should be able to rename the star. Also, when you rename the star, the planets' names should be automatically changed accordingly as well. That is to say, if I change the name to Andromeda, the planets should automatically be renamed Andromeda I, Andromeda II, and so on.

I strenuously object to the inability to rename stars. I thought you could do it in GCI and I know for sure you could in MOOII (yes, I used a swear word). I can't possibly see that as being a feature that the devs had to take out due to time/functionality. YOU GOTTA ADD IT:
A) My custom race's home planet is invariably named something stupid, or out of character for the race (last game had Earth revolving around Cordelia, or something. C'mon now. That race would deserve to be conquered.
B) It's been done in other games
C) After all the jibber jabber about modding and player-customization, this is one big turd in our Corn Flakes.
D) Whoever cared about ownership? If my star system is taken over, I'd expect the other race to change the name, just as I'll earn the right to do when I take it back.
E) Who the hell named all these stars in the supposedly unexplored galaxy anyway? Precursors schmeecursors!
F) and finally, I need to get a life. But seriously, Cordelia.

Scroll back up to the second post in this thread. There's a developer there saying that it should have been in and that its going to be fixed. Chill my friend!

I think this feature should be added, because people want it, and options are good.

Personally, I think it's unrealistic and I probably wouldn't use the feature. Not that this is all that "realistic" a space game, but this kind of thing helps with my immersion and suspension of disbelief. In the growth of a civilization, stars would be named in catalogs long before planets around that star are discovered... let alone colonized. Many of our names for the bright stars seen in Earth's sky are Arabic, named during our Middle Ages. It's only been in the last couple of years that we've been able to locate and name planets in other solar systems. It makes sense to me that a colony expedition would want to rename a planet (there are some great sci-fi novel examples, like "We Made It"), but the star name would already exist in a very old catalog by the time your ship arrived, and you wouldn't arbitrarily rename the star.

Well, that's my thinking anyway, and I'm happy as long as the star names in the game aren't totally stupid. I still think the option should be there, for people who want this.

Please read the post above yours explaining to the post above that, that a previous post (above that) from a developer states that it's gonna be changed.
