Ideas that would be nice to see in GC2

Obstacles in Space, Famous People

Been playing GC2 for about 3 days straight now and i've noticed something.... There's a whole lot of space out there in the game.

The game needs gas nebulas, worm holes, white stars, and well anything to obstruct ship movement in a given area to create some sort of logistical problem or natural defensive barriers for the players & the AI to manuver around.

I'm a big fan of Famous people that give bonuses (either as governors of a planet or starbase or starships).

A better Spy system.

Well hopefully some of you other folks agree with me, and if enough of us pettition maybe they'll put it in a patch or put it in an expansion!!!

Very MOO-ish requests . But it's true. I like the idea of random events, "heroes" and map unique features. Nebulaes and asteroid fields should be easy to implement in terms of gameplay (speed slowdown). Heroes would be probably harder. And events well... it depends how they affect the game.

I agree. There should be asteriod fields ("They'd be crazy to follow us"- Han Solo), blackholes and supernovas (will damage nearby ships), nebulas (would obscure sensors), and comets (potential of hitting a planet and destroying all life).

Things like this I think would add a LOT to this game, it would take the startegy up yet another notch.

Heroes can sort of be emulated by raising a particular ship's level. It's not exactly the same, but at least you can have an under-powered ship trounce ass all over the galaxy.

I like the hero's idea just because it will add to the "epic story" aspect of the game. What's the use of having an empire if there aren't one or two famous people to write in the history books about. lol...think of it, a 2 foot tall alien (one of the snathi maybe) naming themself napoleon lol it could prove pretty hilarious.

I personally wish anomalies would respawn randomly aroung the galaxy, because there usually gone after a while, and any ships with survey moduals are completely usless

I'm pretty sure they do respawn, actually. I'm sure I've swept the galaxy clean, only to turn around thirty turns later and see a couple of new anomolies around. Then again, this only seems to happen in the early stages, so it's possible I'm missing them the first time, or there's a limit based on time or influence regarding their spawning.

Respawning anamolies is a great idea... then you would always want a new ship with tons of speed and a survey module!

Space is very...spacious, there are no natural defensive barriers for the players & the AI to manuver around.

I would like to see the minor races have something I would call the The Grand Space Yacht Tour.A message would pop saying that in x number of days a grand yacht from y minor race will come to your local parsec.You will see a percentage chance they will visit your planet which you can influence by gifting.If it lands on your planet for a period of time you would have something akin to Celebrate the Kings day in civ games,in which your rieceve a boost to one aspect of your race or planet for a time.
an example:

The Caranoids Grand Yachts are in your local space. Honored weapon Scientist Dr.Doom is among the honored guests.
If your planet is on the trip manifest the Doctor will speak on his areas of expertise.
Percent chance of docking on home planet x%
If he lands a menu will come up with his fee breakdown.

x bc =general weapons research
ybc=offensive weapons
zbc=mass drivers

might add some spice to the game.

This Grand Space Yacht is a nice idea and could very well be a single event out of many others. I wish random events could take another form than a screen with a picture and three choices, or random "gifts". MOO had space monsters with particular behaviours (though not many and not *that* interesting). Adventures in Infinite Space has a few rare but critical events (terrible alien invasion, stars going super nova). And in the very old K240 you'd have asteroid running towards your inhabited ones.
I think it's mostly about variety and impact on the game. Maybe also interaction : you had to do something to solve the problem. Sometimes you had more than one option. Always it used the game engine, not choosing from a list.

About heroes : I think it's Brad who said GalCiv doesn't have them and focuses on neutral gameplay because it's up to us to make our own stories. After all we can rename ships and there is an experience system we could compare to heroes. One of the dev journals even showed "Bill" going out in his own ship to kick some alien's butt. I didn't know by then but now I realize they just renamed one ship to do this
