AI's view on Winning/Losing

I'm playing a very slow research, gigantic map against five intelligent opponents. I'm almost 200 turns into the game and fighting a war against the Drengin, Yor, and Arceans. I haven't lost a single planet the whole game. I HAVE taken almost a dozen of the Arcean's planets over a small amount of turns. Yet, every time I go to the diplomatic screen, they're like, "You are clearly on the losing end of this war. Defeat is inevitable." I know the Arceans are RPed as an ancient and wise race; therefore, I don't think they'd stoop to a "No, you're losing. No, you're losing. No, you're losing" battle of words.

My point is, after losing ten planets, why would the AI still think it's winning?

I can count on both hands how many ships I've lost in combat. I've been mopping them up left and right with advanced beam technology and advanced logistics. It's a 10:1 or 20:1 ship-battle win ratio in my favor. Therefore that can't be it. I know their military is technically bigger and better funded, but it's less advanced also and being creamed at every turn. Any explanations?

PS - I freaking love this game.

Frustrating, isn't it? I noticed similiar behavior, and I think I've nailed it down to a simple point of fact - the 'military strength' isn't correlated with actual military strength, but apparent military strength. I think it's tied to either how much you're spending to maintain the ships, or the total hull size you're fielding.

Either way, the AI still doesn't look at how many planets its lost, or how many ships its lost, but only at its current strength, compared to yours, to determine if they're winning the war or not. At least as far as the dialogue goes, that's for certain.

I have to agree. This is one of the few bad points of this game and should be adjusted. It seems that the AI uses just strenght in numbers or something, not who actually has superior ships and what not. If you look at the military chart it seems that the AI uses that. It find it kind of strange that I cream the AI when It supposivly has a military three times stronger then mine. But if this gets fixed and other issues like making to many uber ships in the beggining for to long, and not protecting transports right ( should be protected better then planets in my opinion, because your going into enemy ter.) I would say this game would be much improved in having a more "human like Ai".

I also love this freaking game. Maybe a little to much
