Game not starting up + other strange thing

When I insert the CD (and the auto-run kicks in) the following problem pop-up appears (this is manually translated, as I'm running Dutch for my OS):

"Problem with shortcut"
"The station or networkconnection where the shortcut Registration Brother In Arms.LNK refers to, is not available. Check if the disk is placed or if the networkconnection is available and try again"

(Little note: that Brother In Arms game got uninstalled some time ago)

This happend when the game wasn't yet installed and it still happens after the install.
When I hit the created desktop-shortcut the same message-dialog appears, on which I click "OK" and the GalCiv II Launcher appears. Selecting "Start Game" turns the screen black (appears to start up) but crashes to desktop within a second. The same goes for hitting the GalCiv2-shortcut in the GalCiv2 directory. Hitting the GC2Launch shortcut there again brings up that strange message-dialoge mentioned before.

When I select "Update Game" from the GC2Launcher it brings me to SDCentral where the Update-screen appears directly. I choose "Update now" which brings up another pop-up window saying: "No Registration information was found for Galactic Civilizations II. Would you like to purchase a registration now?"

So okay, what's messed up here? (btw, I got a pre-order from Paradox)

Some programs use a temporary directory to help them install, but sometimes leave stuff when they are done. This can cause problems when another program tries to install. You might muck about your temporary folder and clean it up.

if you're talking about the ...user\local settings\temp folder: man there's a lot of stuf in it. How do I know what to clean up/remove?
