Get out of our space!!!!

An idea (I don't know if this is a little or large tweak so I posted here)

The Proposal
Give the option for the AI to react to potentially hostile or neutral race build-up near their worlds. First by adding a race reduction to relations (much like a weak military makes a race more inclined to dislike you) and secondly by issuing a warning.

Why it would be useful
a) Give the impression of a more life-like AI that actually gets ticked off with people who are where they shouldn’t be.
b) Gives the AI a chance to act negatively to a race dangerously close to its worlds for any length of time (with the exception of an ally).

An Example
The terrans are controlled by the player who is neutral with their neighbours the AI controlled arceans. The player wants to invade the arceans in a surprise attack and the gullible arceans aren’t prepared because the humans are neutral with them:

Trade ++
Close borders –
Our military ++

But the humans now have a fleet dangerously close to an arcean system they have no worlds in and no resources near, where they are building a few ships up at a set rally point. In real life we all know the arceans would say ‘look buddy what the hell do you think your doing with those ships!!’ but because the AI thinks the terrans aren’t hostile he just sits there and bang five turns latter arcea is destroyed and they are surrendering.

Why not add a large reduction to the relations above if a race is dangerously close to a place it plainly shouldn’t be near:

You are in our space! - - -

After applying this for a time the arceans would contact the terrans and say something like:

‘Your ships are very close to our space friend…move them. You have been warned!’

If the player ignores the arceans the reduction will continue and the next message may well be a declaration of war or at least a massive cooling of relations. If they agree the reduction stops when the ships are moved and relations can be repaired. Either way the computer is far more suspicious of the greedy terrans than he was before!!

To the best of my knowledge, this is already in the game! I was just playing a game with the AI set to bright, and I was given a warning to move my ships away from the Drengin border. I wasn't even in their space, just right on the border. Perhaps this only happens at Bright AI and above?

LOL well I have only played at intelligent, it never occured to me this may only be a feature at higher levels!

Can anyone else confirm this

Dam you stardock the only improvement I could think of for your amazing title and you already put it in!!

Yes that is the case the AI is a bit more aware as you get further up the levels. On the easyest levels its pritty much go one had tied behind its back and on eye closed.

According to the dev journals and the manual :

Intelligent - The AI's economy is run at 100% of normal, AI expertly picks abilities and all known human tactics are searched and countered.

It's the "no cheat" difficulty level where the AI gives all it's got.

The AI doesn't always list its relation factors with you.  But it does notice you putting ships near them definitely.

Yep. On lower diffuclties you'll see 'We know what you're doing--' on the relations screen... sometimes you'll even get a popup message from them telling you directly.

I saw that message a few times ('we know what your doing') but the AI never really seemed to use this information....I was able to take drath by doing a thing like I outlined above, and thalia......and New iconia.....as long as it was neutral when I moved in the AI was unable to manage a good counter quickly. The only exception was when they were slightly hostile or declared war on me (then they were ALOT tougher).

I was under the impression that the only differance between intelligent and higher is that the computer gets more money after this setting?

Even on the lowest levels I have it pop up messages saying that they know exactly what I'm up to, but I'm lucky that their generals are too dumb to do anything about it. Hahahahaha. Funny stuff.

Going along the same lines of "the get out of our space" theme of this thread, We need to have an option in our diplomacy to tell the ai players to get their ships out of our space. It gets annoying sometimes to see some race's scouts or something else just hanging about in my space. I just want to tell them to get their ships out.

I agree we should be able to warn the AI about entering our space.

The only borders in the game are planets, it aint your space.

well we should warn them away at least when they get too close to our planets. Also even though our space isn't a border, the ai still gets upset about us building up a military presence in their space, so all i ask is an option to tell them about our unhappiness when they do the same.

i want to be able to tell the Torians the stay out off my primary star system, how to do that? it's very frustrating (& humiliating, thx goodness it's not the pinkskins) that they can simply fly their colony ship in quietly and set up shop right next to my Drengin homeworld! GalCiv should alert when others encroach on our systems, and let us choose an amongst options like "Get lost now , or else it's war" or "Welcome, we've Drengberries juices waiting for u " or "Wanna colonise our planet, pay XXX first..."...
this is especially important in early stages of the game when I haven't got troop transports yet, to take out the invading Torian scourges
