Random Event question??

There was an event in the beta where you were told that a minor civ had stolen all the tech of some major civ and would be willing to trade the info for a habitable planet.

After the announcement I never found a way to take advantage of the offer. Ther was no reference to it on the diplo screen.

I assume it was a trial balloon that never worked out and is not in the game now but I wondered if anyone else ever got that event and was there ever a way to use it?

None of the neater random events are particularily common, and you obviously can't take advantage of any of them unless they actually occur. I've played through two games and the most interesting things to happen were just a few "moral dillema" choice thingies, and a couple recessions/periods of xenophobia/etc.

i have gotten it before, yet i had all thier techs, soooo....... it was worthless lol

I got that event in the retail version of the game. There didn't seem to be any way to pursue the option. Checking the regular trading screen with the minor race after the event didn't show anything different from before the event. I'd have to be really, really far behind in the tech race for such an offer to be worth even a low-grade planet, however.

Maybe it's just a flavor event.
