What to build, and when

Paralyzed by perfectionism

What do you usually build on your home planet, on your first turn? What about a newly colonized planet?

What is a good method of deciding where to put your capitals (manufacturing, etc)?

I mean, in Galciv 1 it was pretty easy: find which colony produces the most of whatever the given capital affects, and put it there (for example, find which of your colonies produces the most, manufacturing-wise, and put the manufacturing capital there).

But in Galciv2, with the space limitations and the on-planet bonus resources, is there an easy way to tell where I should put what?

There have been some other threads on this topic, for example this one:

Link Smink. (No offense )

I like to build the manufacturing center first. I makes all the other builds go faster. More effiicient. Then I build the market, then lab. After that I choose what specialty the planet will be and focus on that building type, only building moral and influence structures if there's a need.

Starbases seem to be cheaper in this game than in CG1. So, if you have a system with 2 planets or more, specializing them in military or economic production and building starbases to boost those characteristics would be sharp. Leave the research worlds and influence worlds for those planets all by their lonesomes.

Just my take. I'm sure there's other spins...

Btw can you eventually use every square on a given planet (via application of technological improvements) or is a crappy planet doomed to forever be a crappy planet? Is there a point at which its simply not worth colonizing a given planet?

A crappy planet is doomed to be a slightly less crappy planet usually 1-3 more tiles

Ahh, thought so. Oh well.

Also, if I put a special building upon a tile with a bonus, what happens?

For example, lets say I build a Manufacturing Capital on top of a tile with a bonus to manufacturing. Do I get a bonus equal to that which I would get if I had simply put a factory on it, a bonus greater than if I had simply put a factory on it, or no bonus at all?

Also, where is the population cap listed?
