This is a sticky thread for people to request very simple tweaks -- things that could be put in and tested in less than an hour that you think would make the game more fun.

So suggestions like "We want a full blown encyclopedia" or "Can we have tactical combat?" should NOT go here.  These are things that should be very easy to do.

The goal is to come up with a list of little things we can do to put into a Thursday update so that people who had to wait to get the game at retail will be able to have something to look forward to to make it worth the wait.

This is one is a bit of a bother.

After a turn occurs and I get my GNN, with pop-ups along the right frame... once I click on a ship icon, I START to center on that planet, but then I'm diverted to the first ship that has a move! Thus, if I hadn't paid attention to WHICH planet just made that new ship, I have to go through all my ship moves and THEN search each planet, looking for the new ship.
The little icon along the right side goes away as soon as you click it, regardless if you actually do anything with the ship.

So yeah, the redirect thing is a beating. I want to do the things in MY order computer, not yours! I will go inspect my newly ship BEFORE I decide to move ShipX !!!

I've seen some great suggestions... and people have pointed out some bugs that I hadn't noticed or considered, especially things like AI behavior. I'm still learning to play, so I don't mind that the AI is taking it a little "easy" on me, but removing methods of "exploiting" the AI seems to be a good idea.

I only have a few "tweak" suggestions, and I believe they have been mentioned before, but I'll reiterate them.

1) From the Ship Design screen, give us a "details" button when we highlight models that have already been built. Sometimes I can't remember exactly what weapons or modules I loaded on that Destroyer that I built, and I'd like to look at the complete design before I start another model from scratch.

2) Zooming on the Tech Tree would be great

Please consider:

1. Adding the ability to view technologies in the trade window.

2. Add some sort of value to the technology windows, akin to Civ4 beakers, so users can more accurately value the technologies they have and trades received by computer opponents.

3. Please provide a downloadable (PDF?) version of the tech tree.

Just a silly little thing, but if you did it I would feel less like an idiot every time I play: could you add TAB switching functionality to the metaverse text boxes? Every time I log into the Metaverse in the game, I type in my name, hit TAB, go "doh!" and click the password box to type it in.

Starting Locations

How about a way choose starting locations for each race.

I always have to restart each map at least 5x till we all get spread out evenly around the map.

I always find we get huddled all close together and large portions of the map are empty.

Would be nice to be able to start the enemy on the opposite side of the map or chose if you could have an ally near to you for example.

Or even a randomize button to remake a new galaxy layout without having to resign and go through the character selection process again

All my UI suggestions involve the shipyard.

#1 Replace the UPGRADE Button with a COPY Button
I create base ship designs with just cosmetic (i.e.,eye candy, no functional components) features. During games I click the UPGRADE button on a base model, add ship components, and save under a new name. This can't be done with the core ship designs because you are not allowed to modify them. However, I should be allowed to create new designs based on them. Allow me to select a core ship design, copy and modify it, but require I save it under a new name! For example, I should be able to create a Colony Ship or Transport which is cheaper, faster, and/or has better range than the core ones but retain all of Stardock's eye candy!!!

#2 Add a CLEAR SHIP COMP. Button
The CLEAR button will clear everything on the current design but what if you want to clear the functional ship components but retain all the cosmetic (i.e.,eye candy) ones?

#3 Add a Show Obsolete Ships Checkbox
By default this would be clear but if checked would show obsolete ships. Selecting an obsolete ship would cause the OBSOLETE button to change color, clicking it would change it back and change the ship back to non-obsolete. Currently if you accidentally obsolete a ship you can't undo that action!

#4 Add a Show Future Ships Checkbox
By default this would be clear but if checked would show grayed out ships that are not yet available because you don't have the required tech. You would not be able to build these ships but it would be nice to be able to view them and see what techs I need to build one.

#5 Add a Show Obsolete Ship Components Checkbox
By default this would be clear (currently they are shown) but if checked would show obsolete ship components. An obsolete component is a component which is inferior in one of the three categories (size, cost, value) and inferior or equal is the other ones. Due to the rebalancing that took place between the Beta5 and release, there are a lot less obsolete components since now the more advanced components are usually more expensive; however, I still think this might be useful.

#6 Add Sorting Ship Components Based on Size, Cost, or Value
Sometimes when choosing a ship component I'm focused on size (since my design is almost full and I looking for what else I can place on it, cost (because I am designing a cheap ship), or value (because I'm looking for the fast engine or most powerful weapon/defense). Being able to sort the components would help in finding the right one!

Thanks Stardock for making a great game. The above changes would make it even better!

1) I just took over a Dark Yor planet... which had both a tech and manufacturing capital... so now i cant make them...
Add in ability to destroy/decommision super projects?
2) Add like a drop down right click menu to stacks of ships (fleet has disband, single ship has upgrade+stuff)

As a first thing, thanks a lot. to Stardock but also to all the GC fans!!

I haven't been around for a while, so most of my thoughts were already pointed out.
Here are my suggestions (or you can consider them my votes):

- Individual ship data are currently not visible in the fleets.Should be fixed.
- Auto-launch for ships should be available.
- It should be possible to select the tile where thr ships pop out.
- Autopilot should give an estimation of the turns needed to reach endpoint
- Radius for a starbase should be hinted on the map while building a new one
- Whole starbase management should be redesinged (not a minor one), need to haev a dedicated tool
.- Trade tech helper (should be easier to evaluate the techs we're trading)
- Upgrade core ships (by copy-paste) should be made possible - not all of us want to play doll dressing but we all want to have nicer ships
- Text entry management should be easier
- Cartesian coordinates should be visible

This is something I haven't seen - yet:

- It should be possible to change the intelligence level of your opponents during the game (not sure how it would affect AI though). For the Metaverse rhe level used in the rankings will be the lowest one.

Ship design - include space used in the summary. Then I can click a ship design, see 19/21. When I get that engine that saves one slot, then I can see at a glance that now have room for that size 3 module I've been wanting to add. All this without going completely into the design. Handy for making an upgrade pass when you get a new tech.

mini map (and main map for that matter) - ship range should stand out better. A thin grey line over a grey fog of war isn't easy to see.

mini map - update fog of war changes while the ship is moving, or at least after it moves. I tend to use the mini map for some by -hand exploration and find that I have to move a ship, click a filter on the mini map, move the ship, etc...

starbase upgrades - when a constructor reaches a starbase, it would be nice to center the map on the starbase so that you can tell which one is going to get upgraded.

The ship upgrade list should not contain designs that you've already marked obsolete. I find that the clutter reduces the usability and is annoying. At the very least, a checkbox option to filter those out (default) should be available.

You can already, rright click on a tech in the Diplomacy screen will tell you the same info as you get in the tech screen.

I would like to have a tab in the shipyard screen than allows you to see all of your player made ships. The reason is for organizational purposes. Now there already is a tab that allows you to see player ships but NOT the obsolete ones. Often times I will want to refer to a ship that I have made obsolete hours ago.

I don't know how hard it would be to add a few of these next things but...

I would like more control and organizational tools in the shipyard screen.

You already have a place we can enter the "class" of the ship. I love this little feature but it isn't complete. I would like to see it be one of several parts. Such as an input section for "Class", "Model", "Ship Name" (for capitol ships), and "Race Designation", it's a pain sorting through ships of different race types as a terran ship style doesnt transfer over well to other styles and visa versa.

Another thing I would like to see is a better screen for displaying ships and fleets. As is the sorting feature is somewhat confusing. It makes creating a naming convention for fleets very difficult to manage if not impossible.

This game is a micromanagers dream but the tools just aren't quite right for the job.

I would like to see anomalies respawn so that i can continue to find them and have use for research ships. all to often they run out way to early. and id like to be able to continue to discover them even if they only occasionally reappear.

For sensor range in racial abilites, change the +1% to +1 pc. This way it will be consistent with Speed and newcomers won't get as confused.

Though you should probably have the word parasec somewhere in there like in the description for speed.

I'd like to be able to rename "Custom Star" when playing as a custom race. (Unless that is already in place and it is my incompetence preventing it!)

Since right clicking on the "New Ship" icon on the right auto-launches the ship, I'd like right clicking the "Improvement Queue Empty" to take me to the planet rather than just making it dissapear. Maybe a check mark on the options page that switches it back and forth.

Much much higher cost for buying equipment : Buildings ; ships and perhaps you should need at least some groundwork (certain production put in) Even with the resources of a planet how do you instant create buildings ships? OK perhaps if you spend 100x the normal cost... I think instant buy should be some kind of real emergency tool and not a common affair.

Slow down the Starships: feels like walking down to the end of town and not sending out Starhips to the end of the galaxcy...

Slow down tech trade: Ever treid to sell to Somalia the design of an airbus? Could they use it in any way?
I don“t thinkt that trading techs should be as simple and as common as in GalCiv2

I'd like to be notified of when a race goes to war, with who, and who initiated the war

I'd also like an option for closed borders, I don't know if you can research this later cause I haven't gotten through the entire tech tree yet. closed borders would be nice, with the exception of freighters...but I'd also like to see a trade treaty be seperate too. so you could have closed borders, but allow for freighters to enter (if you chose).

I'd also like for more descriptive explanations when viewing individual techs like in the tech tree, because I rarely know what a tech will do for me until I research it besides +15 diplomacy

Perhaps its possible to scale down the numer of peple a little bit.... 80 million soldiers attacking... Colonies with 3,5 billion people after a "few" years....
