Editing ships

Ok, this may be the stupidest question ever, but can one edit existing ships? I like the designs that SD came up with but I'd like to make the Defender MKII, MK III etc without having to re-make the entire ship.

From the ShipYard Window Select the ship desgin you want to upgrade. Make your changes, then Save it with the new Name MKIII then you will still have both designs avalible. If you dont want to keep the MKII just delete it. And your good to go.

I thought you couldn't do that with stock ships? Is that a new feature?

Maybe that is what I am doing wrong? I am trying to edit the core ships. Can you only edit ships you designed?

I just got GC2 and have v1.4x. I just created a ship, saved it. Then wanted to pretty it up. I went to the shipyard and selected the ship selected upgrade and only the hull was there. What is that???? I have to redo the entire ship again just to add some extra features? I sure hope this is a bug or I am doing something wrong.

I think that I should be able to add parts to any ship and save it as a new design if I wanted to.

Good to see you back Newfy

By default when you upgrade a ship, all functional parts (engines, weapons, etc) are removed and only the jewelry (the extra non-functional pieces) are left on the hull. I'm guessing you had only functional parts on the ship.

Anyhow, there's an option in the menu to toggle this behavior on and off, right by the control that sets the stepping on the rotate controls in the ship designer.

Found it. This should be defaulted so that the functional components are there when upgrading.

Thanks.

In the Options / Interface screen, look for a checkbox for "Remove Functional Components When Upgrading a Ship".

It is the very last option at the bottom right.
Uncheck the box if you want to retain the functional components.

No, that was how it was originally. It got annoying as hell to people who try to upgrade a ship with 20 weapons to a new model of weapons. So this was introduced, and it's generally liked better.
