Is there a beginner's guide somewhere I can read?

enough pride to admit my nubness

So, I love 4X games and I'm the proud owner of GalCiv2 (congrats on the recent launch Stardock-guys, btw). The big problem here is that I really don't have the time between work and homelife to fiddle about "getting to know" GalCiv2 the way I used to when I was younger. What this means is that everytime I get down to play it, I'm overwhelmed. I've watched the tutorial videos and therefore understant the interface and the tools at my disposal, but I've got no idea of gameplan, how to devise one, what my priorities should be and when, etc etc.
So, yeah, I was hoping someone had written a "beginner's guide" which would walk me through a typical game, with contextual explanation of why the author made his decisions etc. Basically, I'd relish the opportunity to watch over the should of someone who really understands the game and get a sense of the ebb and flow, pace, factors etc.
I want to play this game badly, but find myself going off to my other games that I "get" instead with the limited time I have at my disposal.

Any help or feedback to "help a brutha out" would be most appreciated.

There are some good ideas in this thread to get you started.

...and I'd imagine someone will post such a guide any time now!

Did you check out the gameplay examples in the journal section? They don't go terribly in depth, but they have some good examples of the general way things work.

Also you could check the old Galciv 1 website to get some ideas about how to play the game, there are a bunch of good ideas and comments there here is the link https://www.galciv1.com/forum.asp?BID=GS
