Succession Game Help

PBM type experience...

Ok, some folks and I from penny-arcade forums want to do a succession game. Whereas, we basically do the PBM situation and pass the save file around via email. THe KEY difference is that we are playing the same person. I play ten turns, save, and pass it to Mr. X. He plays ten turns, saves, and passes it to Ms. Y... etc.

What files would we need to include besides the save file? Ship design files? A map file? A config file?

As a side note, this becomes a community event on the forums since every player submits an abstract or summary of their ten turn experience with screenshots. It worked exceedingly well for Civ 4, X-Com, and Rome:TW.

The .sav file is all that you should need to do this sort of thing. It will store all the data files, ship configs, ect ect ect that you'll need for everyone to be playing the same game (which is nice, but it will be a big file ).

However, as more jewelry is added via updates or online libraries, make sure all the players have the components, otherwise you may get crashes when trying to make ships with parts that aren't quite there.

Can't wait to see the run-down of how the game progresses. We should be able to link to it if you wish...Tycho is nice enough to send peps our way, so we can certainly extend the favor

Glad your enjoying the game!

Awesome, thanks BoogieBac.

We in the game can work to maintain continuity between all the clients. A list on the front page of that thread, for example.

Awesome. We won't be doing anything with it until the weekend so folks can get them game and get some experience.

Thanks.

IIRC, there's a crude cheat put in that allows you to switch what race you're playing as, so TECHNICIALLY you may be able to pull off a HotSeat PBEM weird hybrid...though diplomacy would still be done with the AI, and I don't know how enjoyable it'd be, but it may be worth a go if all the players are willing

I'll try to dig that cheat up if you're interested.

Definitely interested in the cheat. I'm part of the PA SG, by the way.

This could be used in later games to play "axis vs. allies" in a war.
