Crashing... alot

Anyone else having this problem? Everytime I get a good map and a good game that I'm gonna play through the game crashes... if it's saved at some point it crashes when I try and load the save... usally it's around the 3-6th turn but sometimes it gets past it but never more then the 15th turn. On one hand I hope I'm not alone with this problem but on the other I hope I am so I atleast know everyone else can enjoy the game.

Have you read through the sticky's at the top of the forum?

Yes, but this is a more of a poll of how many others are dealing with this. I think I know where the cause it... it's because the driver for my vid card is from 04... but it's also the most up todate one that HP has for it, so there's nothing I can do about it.

What kind of video card is it? I don't think HP makes video cards themselves. Find out the brand and get updated drivers from the maker themselves.

It's an GeForce FX Go5600. The drivers from NVIDIA don't work on mine, because it's an older card, they tell me to go to HP and get the drivers from them. LOL

I have an FX5200 on one of my machines in my office, and it runs the latest NVIDIA drivers just fine. In fact, I've found that, sometime earlier this year, there was actually a performance enhancing fix for the FX 5xxx line.

Where'd you find it at? I can definitally use it.

Hmmmm, well according to the Nvidia site you can just download the latest Forceware drivers and the latest release is less then 2 months old. The unified drivers support cards dating back 5 years.

Just go to the Nvidia site.... www.nvidia.com and download the latest driver. Good luck.

I crash a lot when saving or hitting the turn button. If the game crashes while you're saving, that save will be corrupted and unuseable!

So I recommend you 1) Save OFTEN and make different saves! It helps to just number them. Like A1, A2, A3 for the first game. If it's an important save, make it like A5War. 2) Reduce autosave to something like 6 turns. Because you're bound to forget. 3) If you want, install SmartException https://www.stardock.com/products/smartexception/, and send the crash logs to [email protected]

I'm using a GF6800GT, so it's not the video card.

That's what I tried earlier... I click on graphic drivers, then used both GeForce and GeForce Go, then for box 3 I click on XP... then DL the driver each one gives me but when I go to run it I get a pop up saying it didn't detect hardware that's compatable... and when I try the update driver option from the driver info it doesn't find anything.

I've yet to experience a crash. Playted 10 hours last night and a shorter 4 hour game when I got home from work. Flawless.

I hate to say it but with this many people with this many hardware rigs, somebody is going to draw the short straw.

I am confident Stardock will figure out the issue you're having and fix it pronto. You can count on it.

Anyone know why, when I try to install the new drivers from nvidia.com, I get the message saying my hardware isn't compatable but others with near similiar cards don't?

I'm having problems with my Intel Graphics card, I don't exact;y know what it is, but It's not more then two years old, and it was updated by Microsoft update in June 05, and there's no new device drivers for it. Does anyone know what I could do? I'm luck if I can play a half or more before it crashes on me. The most luck I ever had was about 4 hours, but never beat that since. Any tips, ideas, help, or advise? My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 PC with intel pentium four processor and Windows XP with (12GB Harddrive I believe)...

Darkrios, probalby your best bet is to check out the sticky about in-game issues and use Smart Exception. We can then precisely determine what happened.

What's Smart Exception? I've never heard of this before. What is it, how do I access it, and post the results here? All help appericated as always.

I found the Device it's a long name so here it goes... Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics controller. Is any of this familar to any of you. That's the best I could come up with by looking at my computer's hardware. it seems it's some kind of Device driver, and I've tried rolling back but nothing. Updating, didn't help either as it's the most up to date already. Is there another issue, or am I looking in the wrong place?

I just assumed the 'go' drivers were laptop drivers cause I've got a 'go' card. Sadly, the latest drivers that HP has avalible are from 5-04 I beleive... not sure on the month but I know it's from 04. Just gives me more reason to want a new system. What's weird is I can't play Gal Civ II but I can play Battlefront II. It's weird.

Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill.....

I've rolled my driver back to the base drivers from my driver CD.... I've DLed every single driver I can from those links and all I get is ....

"The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

Now I really want to play the game so I can KILL KILL KILL!!!!

Anyone have any other suggestions/ideas?

Darkrious, you could check www.intel.com to see if they have newer drivers.

Tilarium, check www.omegadrivers.net to see if the latest NVidia drivers are newer than the ones that you have.

@Tilarium: the problem (with the install) is most likely that it's a laptop.

the Go5600 is a mobile (aka laptop) part, and the mobile drivers are different from the desktop drivers, which are probably what you've been trying to install.

"The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

yep, that's what the installer will say if you try to install desktop drivers on a mobile part.

that's why you're being pointed at HP for the drivers... they've got the mobile version of the install.

Tilarium, look at this thread and try using the drivers listed there:
Link

If you read the first message, it'll give you the info you need.

nVidia doesn't directly support your card. Since HP hasn't released new drivers you need to get them from a site that specializes in releasing the drivers for these mobile gfx cards. The site I just linked to (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/) should provide you with what you need. I got my latest drivers from there and everything seems to be working fine.
