First Issues/Questions...

Just got the game going a few things right off the bat I want to ask about:

1. When you have units "stacked" you can no longer get to the more detailed unit information screen. This effects both single ships and especially ones in a fleet. In order to edit them or see the individual ships in a fleet I have to move them out of the stack first. This does not seem correct. Shouldn't you be able to "shift click" or "double click" on a ship or fleet to bring up the detailed view, as you can when they are not stacked?

2. Problem with create fleet. Several times while playing I selected 2 ships and tried to create a fleet but what happens was a new little box appeared with a "0" in it and the 2 ships remained separate. I could do this over and over again and create tons of "fake" fleets. I would then have to move the real ships out of the stack (see problem 1) and then I would be able to get the option to disband all the fake fleets. This would seem to happen intermittently.

3. When looking at a planet often the graphic under the tile did not match the terrain type. For example click on land and it would say it was an ocean, or click on an ocean and it would say it is a prairie.

4. Why can you not edit the "core" ships to make your own versions of them?

Any help on these 4 issues?

Thanks! Overall though I dig the game .

1. You can get details on stacked individual ships by clicking the "i" button in the context area after selecting the ship. There is a problem finding info on individual ships in stacked fleets, however. It's on our list, however

2. If you can get a saved game that this is reproducable on, that'd be GREAT. I've never seen this before, but I had another player that couldn't group 2 transports in a fleet...perhaps it's a similar issue. Also a screenshot may prove helpful, if you could send anything to [email protected] I can look into it.

3. Sometimes this happens...this was the best medium between an algorithim that made "accurate" land masses and land masses that just looked like squares. Jsut pay more attention to the green quares and it'll all make mroe sense

4. Lots of people are asking for this. We have it on our lists, and will hopefully come up with a solution ASAP.

Hope this helps (or at least gives you hope for future features), and glad you're enjoying the game!

Thanks for the quick reply!

1) You see the problem I think. For fleets you can not get a ship list, and you can not edit the names of the ships/fleets either. It would seem a double click in to the "detailed view" would solve this problem.

2) Yep, it was 2 Transport fleets!

3) Yeah, Mars had oceans in several places... hehe

4) cool...

I have the same problem when creating a fleet...

And another problem is when I try to create my own ships, I often have problem when I'm trying to save it. It just won't save. Yesterday, when I tried to save my design, the game just crashed.

Thx

2. I've had this happen with transports several times too. Not only do I get a "ghost fleet" of zero logistic points (and inability to "fleet" my ships), but after I've moved all the ships there will still be an icon for the "ghost fleet" when I zoom out to "icon view" distance. Usually this happens if I have several transports in one "tile" (while staging for invasion). The first fleet of transports will create just fine...then I launch them into battle, they die, and then when I try to make another fleet of invaders from the remaining transports I get the "ghost fleet" syndrome.

5. I seem to have problems "fleeting" ships of different types. Like I got a precursor ranger and couldn't make a fleet using it and my medium sized ships. Different armor/defense? Different ship speeds? I'm not sure - this one is probably user ignorance (read the manual twice but it's been a while) - but - I've seen the AI do the exact same type of grouping (it brought its precursor ranger with some of its own ships at me)

6. If you enter ship design from the planet mgmt screen you don't see your save dialogs til you leave the planet screen. I now only enter design from the main screen as a work around. This is only partially annoying the first time it happens to you.

7. ALT TABBING is scary or leads to a crash for me. First time I tried it I got a blank screen for a while, pressed ENTER, and once my turn started to execute things started to reappear. Second time it crashed hard. Good thing quick save is fast. AMD Athlon 64 3000, 1g RAM, ATI9800 (seems like it should handle alt+tab ok).

Would be nice if you could see the "proposed" starbase radius of a constructor that's about to become a starbase. (doesn't matter when making one on a resource but it does often matter when just making them in general)

I've experienced similar problems to most of those listed. The most annoying problem I've come across is in the ship builder where you select the ship. When you use the middle mouse button to rotate around your ship it spontaneously switches which direction moving the mouse left or right goes in. Let me try to explain that better. I'll be moving my mouse right and it rotates around the ship to the right for a few seconds and then it will switch to rotating to the left. I think it might have something to do with the vertical angle you're viewing at. I haven't really noticed this phenomenon when I'm actually modifying my ship but that may just be me getting used to it.

I posted in Brad's known bug list, but I too am getting the 'ghost' fleets, and not just with transports. I'm also getting fleets where I can't combine ships that are well under the point total of my current cap.

Yay for the detailed info screen!

Also, is it normal for your civ to be stuck in the corner of the map, or be always surrounded by *all* the other races so you have to punch through all of them to get to any habitable worlds? (which is just about impossible, since they're on the border of unexplored space anyway. I literally have had to cross the map on most every game I've started, and I seem to be the only one with a single habitable world in my home star system. Heck, I'm usually stuck with a single habitable world, on the only star system within my influence and the other players routinely have 2 starting habitable worlds, and 3/4ths of them have 2 star systems in their initial sphere of influence. I feel like I'm playing catch up from the first turn. I have to burn most of my starting cash just to buy colony ships to race across the whole dang map, purchased constructers along for the ride to give me starbases to extend my range to I can actually get past the other races, only to find out I'm too late. It's getting very frustrating. Twice, I've started in the corner of the map, with 3 empires between me and everyone/thing else. *sigh*

4 - I'd love to see an "inherit design" button so I could derive a new class from the core ship. Some core ships look pretty cool, and I'd rather upgrade them than obsolete and remanufacture a ton of defenders.

1 - With a bunch of stacked ships I get tired of having no action buttons to click. I'm still new to the game and interface, so I don't have hotkeys memorized yet, and I would like to be able to upgrade my ships without having to move them or dig around the manual for a reference.

8 - My first precursor ranger is completely screwed up statistically. The only way for you to believe it is to see...

By my calculations the ship's stats ought to be:
Beam: 0/0
Missile: 55/15
Mass: 32/15

I was researching beam weapons with only half-interest, traded for missile weapons and got perhaps up to the MiniBall 2 in mass drivers (also from trade offers). So I don't actually have the techs to make a ship this type, but only the mass drivers work on this thing. (I've been in fights, still holds.)

You can get my save here. (let me know when you've gotten it) It's a terrible game, and I learned alot in it I think, especially with research.
