Sorry I went the DL route

I was told by EB I could get the game today and reserved it. I went in to purchase and they don't have it until tomorrow. I thought I'd go ahead and try the DL version, though I really wanted a printed manual. I have been trying now for over 3 hours with no sucess to download 1 of the 4 parts. I got 3/4 of the way through the first file (the actual game), which the popped up an error message and I got a log file with:

I am trying again, but SD Central is now telling me server maint is being done. I hope it increases from the 2k-50k rate I was getting earlier. Emailed sales and tech with no answer. I realize it is release day, but I think when I spend near $50 on a download version ($5 more than for a boxed copy) I should be able to play it the same day. Or maybe its just me. In any case, this has certainly soured me afa the downloading route goes.

I also tried the download option and got the same error message about maintenance. I suspect they're actually fixing the servers. All the other multimedia files, being on mirrors, went perfectly fine though.

I went into Stardock around 10:30 this morning and started downloading the game and ran into the same issue. I hit the update button again and it went through with no problems. Give it another whirl. The game is totally worth it.

Yeah, trying to get the whole thing the day of release is going to be alot more difficult than any other day, simply due to the number of people accessing the servers. You can change the server you're trying to pull from in "Tools>Settings>Internet" then switch between the Chicago and California servers, which may help your situation, but after this initial rush of downloading is done, connection times should increase significantly.

im kinda glad i decided to wait until my new computer gets here in another few days. talk about a sweet way to start playing what looks like the greatest space TBS in quite a while, on a 24" widescreen with brand spankin new hardware.

My coworker Paul (Mormegil on these forums) got a new Dell with a 24inch LCD and DAMN, that thing was awesome. And while you're officially on my list of people to be jealous of, I think you'll really enjoy the work put into the "Multi-Resolution" feature of the GC2 engine...it really shines on these larger displays.

I'm feeling your pain. Luckily I got the main stuff of the game yesterday, but even the last few megs or whatever is left is taking forever. I have DL speeds of <1 BYTE. Not even a single kb. OH well. I'm at 10% now. Hurry little download bar, hurry!

I'm having a similar problem, but with a twist:

Error: Attempt: 2 | Account information invalid

Result: Installation failed (9)

I get some of the original poster's "Connection timed out", but mixed liberally with the "Account information invalid" you see above. I updated the game with no problems, but started getting this as soon as I started updating the multimedia pack.

Is this just a product of the server maintenance, or do I have a more serious problem?
