Sound Problem

Hi, I posted about this in another forum, but it didn't appear so I'm going to post again here. I just got the game, and it looks great, but sound isn't working for some reason. I've fiddled with the sound options in the game and it hasn't helped. I've also confirmed that sound is working otherwise on my computer. Any recommendations?

Did you download the multimedia pack? Otherwise, please post the information reported about your soundcard in the debug.err file in the directory where GalCiv2 is installed.

yes, seems to be the first serious Bug we can report...i have no sound too...no music or other sounds....nothing

which multi media pack??? I preloaded an updated the game via stardock...so i think everything should be complete

You guys need to download the multimedia pack. And this isnt a bug. You need the multimedia files for the sound, music, etc. If you don't d/l it, the game with run, but without any sound or music.

Okay, so how do I download the multimedia pack? I'm not immediately seeing how to do that. Having sound downloaded with the program seems like it should be pretty standard, and not something you do separately.

Under Galciv 2 in stardock central, there should be three serperate ticks, the Game, the Multimedia, and the Tutorials. You need to get all three of these. right click on each and click update.

As I said in another thread, the assumption is that if you click on 'Galactic Civilization II' and Update, it should get *everything*. It's counter-intuitive to force people to expand the tree and get each seperately.

Ah well... lesson learned. I'll know for next time.

Okay, I may have found the multimedia pack. Load up Stardock Central, go to Games, and you should see Galactic Civilizations 2. Beneath it will be three subsections - Tutorials, Movies, and Multimedia. I clicked on Multimedia and it seems to be downloading now.

Yes, it is a bit odd, but I'm sure stardock has thier reasons for this.

in stardock central, next to galciv 2, is a little +. Press that and look if the multimedia pack is downloaded. The multimedia pack contains the sound files, so you can't play any sounds without it.

If that is NOT the problem, look in the galciv2 directory (it's in your "programs" folder). There you should find a file named "debug.err", open it with text edit, and post the part about your soundcard here.

Same confusion got me as well. I've had the game pre-loaded for days now but didn't realize I had to load the mulitmedia pack separately. Maybe stardock will ease the confusion in the future by auto expanding the download tree when there are new updates available. Either way live and learn and it wasn't that hard to get on the forum and figure out anyway. From what I've seen the game looks great and my multi pack is at 64% so maybe I can hear it soon too
