Retail availability: North America

This week!

Want to get the game at a store? Starting tomorrow, the game will start appearing at various retailers.  It won't necessarily be in all stores at the same time since today was a US holiday.  But below is a list of retailers who should have it sometime this week:

  • Electronics Boutique
  • Best Buy
  • Gamestop
  • CompUSA
  • Circuit City
  • Walmart
  • Fry's
  • Jack of All Games (Canada)
  • J&R

It will also be available in most smaller store chains as well though we don't have a list of them.

Regardless of where you purchase the game, you will be able to get the Bonus Pack goodies and the electronic-based Collector's Edition content (we know which serial #s went with the first batch).   So don't worry about whether you have the Collector's Edition or not, we'll take care of you. ;)

It should start showing up at retail over in Europe starting next week.

No matter where you purchase it, your serial # will enable you to download the entire game via Stardock Central for years after.  We expect to have the Bonus Pack available by tomorrow afternoon.

People who preordered from us will be able to get the game digitally via Stardock Central by late after noon EST (that's night time in Europe).

Please consider releasing the download version earlier in the day.

So chances are I get my hands on a copy tomorrow or Wednesday... Awesome. Absolutely awesome. Even if I have to wait until Wednesday, I hate it when the release date is the "shipping" date and not the "supposed to hit the shelves at earliest" date. So yay!

Yep. Thanks for the head's up on that. Added them.

EB Games and Gamestop show shipping 2/21, which usually means in-store the next morning when the UPS guy shows up at about 10am for most stores. Of course do give them some time to unpack the boxes

So... just to clarify. If I pre-ordered GalCiv2 through Stardock back in October 2005 (Item: ESD-SDS-W142 , Galactic Civilizations II {Final Release}) I have the Collector's Edition?

What is the difference between the Electronic Download for $44.95 from Stardock that gives access to the BonusPak, and any other order. Which seems to include a Tech Tree fold out, and a Galactic Civlizations 2 Desktop Theme pak. Is the Desktop theme going to be available to preorders of the electronic download (exclusively, as it was the most advanced option available)...

I'm just trying to get a understanding of this.

It sounds like there is extra content available to all of us no matter how we paid.

What arguments does stardock have in regards of keeping the digital release date at late afternoon EST ?

They don't want Europeans to get the game on tuesday it seems.
grrmmbl

Forgive our impatience Stardock. You guys have been working your collective asses of for weeks now and we can't even wait a night. Shame on us.

They didn't want it crashing or goofing during the night when no one would be there to fix it. Can't really blame them, I wouldn't want to stay up all night, plus it gives the retail people time to open (on the west coast).

Specifically for Best Buy, when checking I saw an "in-stock" date of the 28th on the company system with most stores placing an initial 4 on order.

Mind you, I check about 6 stores scattered through South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia, so it could be different for other markets. BB has truly fallen to low PC gaming standards.

So does this mean late afternoon on monday (20th) in the US, or late afternoon tuesday... They are a little vague, but if the download isn't available now I guess I may have my own answer... Thanks!

Afternoon Tuesday. It's really not that vague, they've said it several times the last several days in various posts. I think the exact time was 3:00 Eastern Time, but I don't know if they decided to change it.

I have to wait for the dog-slow Amazon.com free shipping. Woe is me!

Just wanted to say - I saw this and the last post (for a moment, had hoped "1 day left" was a measurement from yesterday, so thought the game had gone full release...sigh), and decided to buy without getting a review from one of the institutions I actually trust.

Even if the game turns out not to be worth $45, rewarding a company for having the right mindset re: copy protection is worth it.

Keep up the good work.

Argh! This means I have to sit before my PC this evening and wait until the last files of GC2 pop up in SDC. By the time they do it's probably time to turn in...

No time on wednsday so I probably get to start a decend game on thursday earliest. You're killing me...

Damn, I think I'll load my ongoing Civ4 game and start wiping out a few of my neigbours to vent my frustration...

Just want to express how grateful I am regarding the way Stardock handles copy protection, backups of serials and downloading of the game. That we European customers will be able to download the "bonus content" because Stardock tracks the serials: How cool is that?

Neither Best Buy nor CompUSA in Marietta, GA even have so much as a record of when it'll be on shelves. Can't see it on their web sites either. Both are lousy places to get new PC releases anyway. I just wish my family would stop giving me gift cards to these places so I won't have to go back to them. Hey Stardock, do you sell gift cards?

I'm having the same problem down in Orlando, Fl.
