Starbase question!

OK, I know that a starbase with the appropriate upgrades increases freighter revenue when a freighter is in its area of influence. But would it be more profitable to have the starbase further out along the trade route (near its destination), closer to its home base, or does it matter?

The comments I've been reading are that it only only helps when it's closer to it's destination because that's when the freighter is at the height of it's revenue stream. Your freighters' revenue stream reduce to zero as it returns home. I also read that these starbases help other races too, not just yours. Can someone please verify this? I would hate to have my starbases helping my competitors economically.

I'd like to know about this too. I never played GalCiv I, so I don't know how this is supposed to work. The idea of getting more money the further your starbases are from your territory is intriguing, as it makes it a difficult decision about how far away to place them. Close and protected, or vulnerable and profitable?

The only way the starbase help other races is if the UP resolution allowing that is passed.

Starbases all along the freighter route help trade income and the home sector is not zero income but it is at it's lowest point, so the return is lower. However, econ starbases also help production on your home planets when they are nearby.

Starbases only help your freighters and those of your allies in case the special UP event for that has been accepted.

I think the system of increasing trade income while the freighters travels should be changed perhaps, it's the right thing that longer trade routes give more money, but why does the income increase while it's travelling? I don't think they're actually sending money back every turn...?!

and also, you get revenue from other ships trading at YOUR planets, so, does the trade bonus starbases near your planets give you increase that income as well?

I think so but I am not sure how it is distributed. When you get an alien freighter the game tells you your income will be increased by X per month. What I am not sure of is whether the formula for distribution is the same as your own freighters (the further away the more income per month) or reversed (more income when it is in your home sector).

I would like to see Brad or another developer address this.
