Getting the game: does the 21st begin at 12:01?

Having preloaded the game, I'm having a hard time keeping down the slobber I'm generating at the thought of the untapped gaming potential now residing on my hard-drive. So my question is simple: at 12:01 can I download the remaining files and engage in a gaming experience which will result in the shuddering release of my pent up Galciv II yearning?

*twitches uncontrollably*

I'm just asking...

From the briefing on SDC chat the game should go active on the servers about 1500 eastern time.

I wasn't going to ask this question until closer to the 21st, but it was on my mind. So thanks for bringing it up.

That said, Suralle's answer saddens me. I don't have to work that day until 1700 EST... I was hoping for some significant early-morning playing time. As it is it looks like I'll barely get in an hour or so. D'oh!

Oh well, I was hoping that some portion of my long weekend could be spent on the game... At this point, my anticipation is so high that I'm afraid it might result in premature capitulation when I first play...

I think it sucks so many people are already playing the game (people who have betas and gammas), but the rest of us have to wait even though we pre-ordered and payed the same. LOL

It just feels lousy to know the game is totally done (and even paid for), but you still can't play it for artificially created reasons...

Soulfire, the last widely available beta build is 2 months old. Compared to the final game, it's like a car frame with an engine and no steering wheel.

The gamma testers are in a different category.

As for the artificial distinctions about making it available electronically vs. retail, one must take certain larger realities of market forces into account...

Pre-load and Tuesday you can unwrap the goodies.

Here's a related question: is the 21st the ship date or the date it hits shelves? I'm hoping desperately it's the latter.

Hits shelves. Which means people who get it in stores can get it as soon as they open, assuming the shipment actually arrives, which generally means as early as ~10AM EST for those on the East coast.

However, we won't make it available until afternoon of the 21st.  We thought about doing the midnight thing but consider this: What if something went wrong? We flip the switch, go to bed, come up and there's a bad thing going on.  Better to be safe.

I was in the World of Warcraft beta, so I know first hand that no matter how well prepared one is, you can never be too prepared.

Anyway, good luck with the release, all you over at Stardock. I have often said how great I think this company is and it's only getting better. I make sure all my friends, colleagues and fellow students know about the release!

Think you got the conversion wrong - if they release it 1500 / 3PM EST, it's 2100 / 9PM here in Germany. So yeah, we have to wait until the evening. (Which doesn't bother me because I have to work until then anyway, but ohhhh... take wednesday of? So tempting.... )
