senate elections

i wonder if senate elections are influenced by some factors or depends only by morale.
for example if i choose the war party and lose the last elections can i influence the elections in a way favourable to war party declaring war to another race; if a war is in a stalemate can it influence the rise of populists?if i build a lot of trade routes will it boost mercantile party strenght?summarizing rise of your opposition parties is random or depends from events and your way of play?

It is tied to morale/approval. IF the people are happy with your rule they will vote for you. Much like real life. People will vote for the man they think is taking care of them. I do think that morale should be tied to the tide of war. If you are protecting your people they should love you and if you are losing they should hate you.
