Great Job

Great work on the pre-downloading. I had installed Stardock Central last week. As soon as I got the email, I launched it, and was prompted to update. After the update, GalCiv2 showed up without any need to enter the temporary serial sent in the email. Download speeds were around 200-400k.

Great to hear.  Yea, Stardock Central will attempt to use your Stardock.net account (the one you use on this forum) to see if you're in the purchase database and then set you up without ever having to enter in anything.

I'm getting about 24KB / sec at the moment, but I wouldn't read too much into that since broadband in New Zealand is notoriously slow. Incidentally, What's the deal with the tutorials, movies and multimedia folders under the GalCiv2 icon in stardock? Do these need to be downloaded separately or are they just parts of the package being downloaded as part of GalCiv2?

Download was great but had one quick question. Upon completion of the download I got some odd popup (no unfortunately didn't save it or memorize it) that said something to the equivalent of "Failed initialization of the program Galactic Civilizations 2"

1) Is this normal? Has it happened to others?
a) if its not normal what should I do
2) Is it just that the game attempted to launch Gal Civ 2 and since it is not complete yet until launch-day that it failed because the game is not fully operational?

Cykophrog: I'm not sure.  What happens when you try to launch the game? You should get a gadget that pops up.

Cykophrog, I had the same pop-up. It said that the game could not be activated. I took a screen shot, but I don't have it on this computer so I can't write exactly what it said: I will update with that later. However, it didn't seem to cause any actual problems, but I won't really know until I download the remaining files on Tuesday.

Prince of Cows: You need to download the multimedia and movies if you want them. The GalCiv2 download was only the code for the game the game data. As I understand it you dont have to get the multimedia, movies, or tutorial to play the game. I could be wrong. I didnt test my theory as I downloaded all of it so I could view em

When I try to launch the game I get that gadget you talked about: like the opening menu where I can pick from update the game, manual, and preload info. So it hasn't had any effect but like I said.. really weird popup.. just hope everything runs right when the final loads up.
I'll let you know, and hopefully everything works alright regardless of what that popup said.

Thanks Brighton, I ended up downloading them all anyway. Oh just for the record, it's prince of Crows, not prince of cows
