Galactic Civilizations II: Quick Video Demo

Galactic Civilizations II: Quick Video Demo

The main UI in action

https://www.galciv2.com/databank/galciv-1.wmv

Galactic Civilizations II is less than a week away.  And we will be putting out a demo of the game after it's released.  But we wanted to put some quick gameplay stuff out there.  This is just a little thing we made that shows how the main UI works.

If people find this useful, we can do more.  Cheers!

This is incredibly informative. It's like getting the DVD commentary track before seeing the movie! (And I too, apparently, have been mispronouncing the Drengins...)

Well it's nice to know that someone else out there, creates funny named stuff, and I got it right. w00t got it right!

Yeah I want to see many more of these video's. It's already put my Mo03 scarred heart at ease. I still have it in my view on a shelf nearby. Where I've kept it since I got it years ago. And I keep it there as a cautionary tale. Sometimes, if folks are being too damn secretive about how a game plays.. it's probably a good sign something is up. Then again, I didn't want to play the first Gal Civ, cause at the time I heard it only had human races. And that was a non-starter for me.

But dammit.. Brad, you've got me interested in your game. Well that and it's supposedly very

Wow, the screenshots really don't do the engine justice. That looks fantastic. I love all the little effects like the ships hovering in place and the visual representation of orbiting moons/planets.

Would love to see more videos. Thanks for putting this up.

Wonderful indeed. I would love to see more

Can't wait that the game arrives.

Just a stupid question on the first scene: why do the ships dance in space? This looks a bit silly Is is possible to switch it off?

A nice vid of the battle screen in action would get the masses blood pumping

Oh sweet lord YES!

The game is already incredibly beautiful. This is the prettiest turn-based strategy game ever.

We're all very excited to see a battle. Any way to show us one?

Is it too much to hope to see a Dread Lord ship in action?

yeah im hoping for a video of a battle too

Hmm I don't want to see Dread Lord ships right now.
I'd prefer to encounter them during the campaign.

Hmm, not getting anything.

Tried clicking on it, tried save linkl target. Any special requirments to view?

*assumes its busted, and waits till tomarrow for the next re-try*

It would not display for me in Firefox 1.5.0.1 so I copied the URL and pasted it in Windows Media Player and that worked. Great video! Keep them coming!!!

Really enjoyed the video. Hope there are more before I get my preordered Gal Civ 2 in the mail next week.

After watching the clip, I have to admit....I'M IN LOVE with the game!!! To bad we can't skip ahead to the 21st and play the game myself. Did I mention I'm drewling??

I have to say I'm very impressed. It's hard to wait for another week. By the way, I was pronouncing Drengin wrong too like most everyone else. I didn't think it'd be pronounced Drenjin. I guess I assumed aliens wouldn't have names with Gs with English pronounciation. Oh well, wrong assumption.

This video is awesome. The perfect thing to ease the pain of waiting another week for GalCvi2. I definitely look forward to more before the game itself launches.

I love the video clip but mine ended abruptly for some odd reason. I saw this post the other day and I could have sworn you did a long post explaining in detail what each part of the UI was, today I don't see this information, I click the link and all I get is one short video clip that ends unfinished. AM I crazy?

Brad, will the AI fixes you made following this game (e.g., fix for the AI not building up the PQ 17 planet) be available Feb. 21?

PQ15+ planets usually are host to one or more of my capitals (manufactory, research, economic, and/or political). If you build more than one stock exchange on a planet, do you get additional bonuses (i.e., should my economic capital have several stock exchanges) and are those bonuses local to that planet or global to your empire? In the Beta5 I would usually place 1 stock exchange per planet.

I would also like to see more videos like this. It was great! Keep up the good work!

P.S. I, too, was pronouncing Drengin wrong.

Does that use a divx codec coz im not getting any video. It sounded pretty good though.

i know you already heard this but

WOW!!

Can't wait for the UK relese!

"Does that use a divx codec coz im not getting any video."

Nope, it uses the Windows Media format. Make sure you have the latest driver for your graphics card, and are you using Windows Media Player 9 or 10?

And yes, more videos, please.

Best part of the movie (reviewing a Torian transport):

"no, they didn't fill it ... (pfffft!)... losers!"

Uhhhhm, Brad? Since you programmed the AI; it means that was you which you were talking about. S'ok man, we love ya anyway. But if it gets too bad, well they make drugs for that.

mmm,... the world looked pretty small. gfx looks cool but think i would prefer to play in 2D overhead view too most of the time, and it's probably a chore to zoom in & out all the time.
remember when i played Stars! on my laptop @ 1600x1200 rez, it's just awesome having everything, stats et al tiled nicely on the desktop
I can't rotate the map! or rather it rotates, but once I release the middle mouse button, it bounces/springs back to its original position/orientation???
