homeworld planets are preselected or random models?

i know that earth, mars, jupiter have their own shape and colors like in reality.
i wonder if other homeworld planets have their own distinguished features for example in every game altaria is a blue planet, korx is orange with some rings and so on...

Yes. All the homeworlds have custom textures, though the extra planets in the alien home systems are generic class 0's.

You can give them custom planets as well. See the tutorial CaretFarmer has stickied here in the forum.
