GETTING THE GAME FAQ HERE!!!

Q: I want to purchase the game at Stardock and download immediately but I still want the box. Can I do this?

A: YES. If you purchase the second option (CD purchase) you still get a serial # to download the game. That serial # is temporary (i.e. will expire) but will let you play the game until the box arrives.

Q: If I bought the game for download only, can I still get the box/CD later?

A: Yes. Just requires shipping and handling.

Q: If I pre-order at

A: In North America, as far as we know, ALL pre-orders are being fulfilled with the Collector's Edition. Walmart, EB, and Gamestop explicitly mention it on their sites for instance.

Bear in mind: We don't control retail.  So here's some help on knowing which the store is getting you:

Collector's Edition SKU:
708192010332

Standard Edition SKU:
708192010325

That said if you pre-order the game at reatil and they still get you the standard edition, Stardock will do what it can to help you out by getting you access to the additional content (because we know which serial #s were in the first batch to go to retail and can use that to give access to players in a pinch).  So if a store messes up, please avoid returning it. It's not easy for indies to get into retail to begin with, so if a bunch of people start returning the game, the store isn't going to think it's because they messed up but because it's a bad game.

The best route is to keep an eye on the SKU. Many stores are taking pre-orders but are using the regular SKU.  Like I said, we will make sure you get the extra downloadable goodies.

Q: If I buy it at retail can I still download the entire game directly?

A: YES. Using Stardock Central you can enter in your retail serial # regardles of where you bought it and download the full game.

Q: I heard the retail boxed version has no copy protection. Is this true?

A: Yes. The retail version has no copy protection whatesover. You don't even have to enter in the serial # if you don't want during the install (people lose serial #'s anyway). You will need the serial # to get updates however.

Q: I don't want to use Stardock Central to get updates. Do I have to use it?

A: NO. You will also be able to get updates via the website using the traditional "patch" method other games use. You will still need your serial # though.

Q: I live in Europe, how do I get the game?

A: Our friends at Paradox are handling GalCiv II in Europe. They will be mirroring our release and have a collector's edition box and have the same sorts of goodies in there we think (should talk to Paradox for specifics).  Users who purchase in Europe can also still use Stardock Central to download updates.

Q: What about Australia/New Zealand?

A: Auran is handling it down under.

Q: What about foreign language support?

A: Paradox is in the process of translating files now.  We will also be putting up our translation kit here so people can translate it however they want.

Q: Do I have to pre-order to get the collector's edition?

A: Somewhat.  Direct CD orders will be fulfilled with the collector's edition until we run out of stock which should last for a couple months at least.

Q: Should I buy at retail or direct from you? Which is best for you guys?

A: Whatever is best for you, the customer is best for us.

The last sentence says it all. That's why Stardock is such a great company!
BTW, here's one german that prefers the original. But that's what downloads are for, aren't they?

And I'm by no means against translation! I just like to get my games as early as possible and as original as possible. As long as the ship the english version with the translated one, it's OK with me!

Q> If we pre-ordered via orginal TGN subscription through SDC and have beta tested is there a link from which we can purchase a boxed SE version at the reduced cost that was mentioned some time ago?

I second Griffin's question.

Third Griffin's question - even if we were latecomers to the beta.

If you had an original TotalGaming.net subscription in which you received GalCiv II for free, you can get the Collector's Edition for $20 which includes shipping to North America ($25 outside North America). You'll need to contact [email protected] though.

When do I get my temp serial, I cant wait to play

Should be some time on the 21st. They're not going to scoop the retail channels.

I thought those who pre-ordered could DL the game before the 21st to prevent server overload.

Maybe you can DL but not play (because you don't have the serial) before the 21st ?
Err, that's true too, I forgot about the pre-loading. I should have said "Should be playable by some time..."

Amazon is listing the game with the Standard Edition SKU. Are they not selling the Collectors Edition?
No, Amazon is not fulfilling pre-orders with the Collector's Edition.

Two Questions for Stardock:
1) Besides the box and CDs, can you be more specific about what additional game content existing subscribers get for the $20? (Tell me why it's worth it!)

2) Will the additional content be downloadable by people with subscription serial numbers (as opposed to persons who buy the one-off product)?

Thanks!

1) From Kim at Stardock sales.. You get the same as those that pre-order at present. Basically for $20 you are purchasing the Collectors edition.

2) Sorry not sure but i believe the answer is yes. TGN move 1 serial holders will receive the same as those who have pre-ordered.

Thanks, Darth.
To clarify,
1) I am trying to find out the difference between the standard and collector's editions, in terms of game content.
2) If anyone from Stardock can confirm if subscribers will be able to download the collector's edition, I would appreciate it.
Thanks again, Mike693.

AFAIK the collector's edition is mainly about getting a different box with a fold-out tech tree and some other similar goodies. The only difference in game content that I know of are the graphical goodies you'll be able to download and put on your ships when designing - it's all about the bling.

I almost pre-ordered the CD through Stardock, but I got to the last page (I think) and it never mentioned Shipping and Handling. So is "$44.95 + s/h" slightly incorrect? Or do the Stardock guys live down the street from me, so they'll just walk it over for free?

Also, the Gamestop link here doesnt work. The link should be this

The FAQ above has also been entered as individual articles into Stardock's Knowledgebase. You can find the GalCiv2 FAQ at the following location:

It will be updated as new FAQs are asked/answered. Enjoy!

Update: The most prominent questions that are answered in the GalCiv2 README have also now been added to the Knowledgebase as individual searchable articles.

Thanks for the useful FAQ!

Two quick queries:

1. Is there any news or possible details of this release in asia?
2. If I order #2 (download + CD), how long will the temporary serial last? Reason is, if overseas shipping takes too long it would be a tad frustrating if we had to wait for the CD to arrive. Just a slight concern from an overseas player.

I do have one other comment, is it possible to display when forum messages get edited? I understand the FAQ has been updated at least once (the SKU details was not there in the initial FAQ), but no indication of when the last update was made. That sort of info might be useful for some folks. Just a suggestion thats all.

Otherwise I look forward to playing GalCiv 2! I am sure everyone's hardwork at StarDock will payoff.
