Why I hate Minor Races.

1)
They do not play by the same rules. Drive an Minor Alien race into Bankruptcy and they still seem to be build ships like they are going out of style.

The moral of a minor race can be 10% and they may have no technology but none of thier planets defect.

You pay enough to major races you can trade to planets.
Offer a minor race every tech and trade good you have they never trade a planet.

2)
I read somewhere that Brad thinks that haggling with alien races over trade routes are cheesy. Minor races in general are cheesy. What is called the "Bradian AI" ?

The "JimTech AI" would be cool.

3)
I reade somewhere minor races are not out to conquer a galaxy. Not true they start wars against major races why would they do that if they are only interested in their own planets ?

I played a game good my Empire surrounded a minor races planets and I got the Cheesy message "You call us a Minor race take pity etc...".

I have battleships my empire is well defended so what bussiness do they have starting a war anyway. To make matters worse a major race surrendered to them.

4) Major races should not be allowed ever to surrender to a minor race.

Please I beg you Stardock kill of minor races !!

Oh I forgot to mention I saw last night the bug reported in another thread. The amount of cash that the Brads had was something strange like 628999785646 the number which I suspect is the Maximum number for a Long Integer.

Kill of all minor races this would not longer be a bug to worry about.

There is another post where Brad talks about minor races and he states that they will stay in there own sector. I think this will take care of some of your gripes.

I like the idea that they stay in there own sector and are tough to get out of there.

I think the idea of minor races are good. I just don't think they are implemented in the best way *yet*.

They do not stay in their own sector now. If they did then they would be truely limited. Why have them ?

They would only stay in their sector until some major race wipes them out or surrenders to them.

Minor races then becomes extra prey for evil races and still would not be required.

Tech, it's a BETA for christ's sake. Sometimes I swear you act like every build is the shipping version. Do you really think thta the final game is going to have a race called the Bradians with a picture of me?

In the next build they'll be sticking only to their sectors. The point of this build was to see how the new AI personalities would behave.

I did notice the word Beta every time the game starts and for that reason do not get too upset when something unexpected happens "like unexpected crashes or the game becoming unstable" but really how are we BETA testers supposed to know when something is a place holder ?

Call minor races whatever you want but I do not like minor races. If they get restricted to a sector in the next BETA I will be the first one going to war against them a and wiping them out. Better me having their planets than some alien race.

Technician,

In case you haven't noticed yet the Beta testing philosophy at Stardock is different than any other game company. The test period is longer (I got the first "Alpha" build in January) and many more ideas from the testers (and this forum) get implemented before release. Other benefits are that ideas can be tested out for mass reaction before the product is shipped, bugs are found earlier, things that don't work well can be fixed or removed. etc.. I suspect that if Quicksilver had a similar Beta policy that they would have discovered how overwhelming (their words) their product was and been able to trim it down and ship sooner. I also think that CIV 3 would have avoided many of the mistakes they made.

Technician,

From the sounds of it, you will not be able to so easily wipe out the minor races(from the sounds of it). And if you spend a majority of your resources on trying to take their sector, you might be left "high and dry" when another AI declares war on you.

Minor races aren't going away. I'm sorry you don't like them.

Minor races are there to a certain degree precisely so that you can have low level, winnable wars. They are there to be preyed upon to a certain degree.

I agree minor races are a must for the game but they need work.

I also like the minor races. One of my strategies is to get as many trade goods as I can, and trade them for gobs of money with the minor races. This is the best way I found to keep up with or get ahead of the AI. ;)

I don't think of minor races as "prey" either Bert. I find them a useful way to moderate the power of agressive alien races such as the Drengin, Yor and to some extent arceans. Minor races usually develop powerful fleets and as far as I'm concerned this a briliant thing as it stops rival alien races from siezing their lucrative worlds and stacks of wonders which they so kindly keep from the hand s of my rivals.

I couldn't figure out what folks were talking about here . . .
hehe check out the date of the thread -- man, this one is like 14 months old! Bert hasn't posted a game in 6 or 7 months, or to a forum in over a year. Sheesh!

Yes the game evolved greatly since I posted this over a year ago.

My option has changed minor races add to the game.
