Dread Lords ship not killed after loosing all Hit Points!

Hello,

I send many ships vs a Dread Lord ship and finally got it down to a few HPs.

I then sent a fleet of 3 small ship, which did enough damage to kill the enemy ship (it showed as 0 HPs in the combat view).

Yet, it still destroyed all my ships, and when combat ended, it had 1 HPs left!!!

 

Is this a bug, or do they have a tech that allows them to 'revive' their ship at 0 HPs?!?

There is a 'tie rule' in the combat system. If both sides kill each other in the same round, the stronger ship survives. To beat the dreadlords, you need to bring either a ship strong enough to weather their attacks, or a swarm of weak ships large enough that they can't shoot them all down in the one round it takes to finish them.

Geez.. not fair!!

I think that dread lors has like 10 weapons - does it means I need 11 ships to really 'kill it' ?

It there a way to DISABLE that 'tie rule'?

That is one way, yes.

It's a core part of the combat system and cannot be disabled.

However, if you are lucky, it probably will not take 11 ships, if one of their weapons does extremely badly on a roll (ex. a Doom Ray dealing 1 damage on a damage range of 0-22).
