Here's a few:

-A military coup occurs in your empire and a few of your systems and some military forces are taken over

-Something akin to the space amoeba or space crystal monsters in MOO2

-Part of your diplomatic corps are found to be tratorous/murdered/etc and your diplomatic abilities are temporarily crippled.

-Terrorists/spies/pirates/something else begins disrupting your trade routes and you lose some number of the freighters you assigned to them.

-A powerful ship design from one race, along with the technology to use it, is stolen by another race, who can now build it, albeit at a slightly higher cost.

A terrorist group appears in the galaxy, and every X number of turns they destroy what ever is built on a random tile of a random planet that does not (or maybe that does) have a military ship in orbit.

How about something akin to the U.S.A.? If you have colonies at the far end of one map, they rebel and start their own system of Gov't. Essentially a new AI starts up.

Or, How about one of the Minor races becomes a Major race? Or things like you find out that a factory on one of your biggest industrial planets was skimping on the pseudo-iron, and all the ships from that planet go kabloooey.

avfm8, you crying wouldn't make for a good mega event.

My ideas:

Expel the most powerful civilization from the United Planets.

A widespread communication failure results in ships becoming lost in space. Without working navigation or communication, the ships are never heard from again. I'll just leave it to you guys to come up with reasoning behind this.

Turn a random minor race into a major race.

A powerful ancient Precursor battle fleet is discovered by a random race (preferably a weaker one). Kinda like the Katana dreadnaught fleet in Timothy Zahn's Star Wars novels.

I have some more ideas that would work better as United Planets proposals, but I'll leave that for another thread.

- Your own spies become traitors and work for some other civ(s).
- Or, some other civs spies join yours.

A race of beings that offer to sell you(or someone else) unique technology that can not be gained by conventional means.

Hi Frogboy, thanks for asking us for more input (again!). I can't think of many events that haven't already been suggested or included in the game, but this is one I suggested on the previous Ideas thread:

- The game takes all of the sectors on the map and randomly shuffles them. Everything in the sector (stars, planets, ships, starbases) are transported with that sector to their new position on the map. It would really shake up the game.


My only other request is that we have an options page where we can toggle specific mega events on/off. I love mega events, but that speed limit event really takes the fun out of the game. I want to turn that one off!

I would like to see a shift in loyalties event. Treason in your political party causes it to collapse any forces you to pick a new political party.

I also like the space monster/megaship event.

A double agent event. All spies deployed in any other civ (including yours) defect to that civ.

A radical scientific breakthrough. A div that is far behind in tech all the sudden gains an entire tech tree or an isolated high level tech.

Revolution fever! 10% of all worlds defect from all civs defect to other random civs.

Abandonment: A random civilization evaculates the galaxy. All colonies are destroyed and all ships disappear, leaving a new colony rush for these worlds.

Find a usable precursor battleship!

Dreadlords appear with a battlefleet and transports and start an invasion. Must conquer a worlds instead of being given one.

A mercinary fleet appears and offers to sell their services to the highest bidder!

Great bank robery: Your entire treasury is stolen by another civ.

Fleet defection: an entire fleet defects from one civ to another.

Robotic invasion fleet: A number of armed transports equal to 10-50% of inhabited worlds appear singlely throught the galaxy and attack the nearest world. If the transports are not destroyed or the invasions are not defeated, the world is held by the forces until someone invades the world and kicks out the robots. (no social construction or diplomatics. population increases or not at your descretion.)

Robotic invasion II: Same as above but they do gain population and begin building armed transports and factories (nothing else and converting all improvements to factories.) Armed transports are sent to the nearest unconquered world.

Plague II: One colony world is destroyed in your civ every for weeks until plague cure is researched. Destroyed colonies may be colonized again but all improvements are gone (had to be destroyed to prevent recontaminition.)

Zeitgeist: One of your civilization bonuses is exchanged for another random one permanently.

Virus attack: All research in your civ is cut by 10-50% for 10-100 turns

Massive strikes: All production is cut by 10-50% for 10-100 turns.

That is all I can think of at the moment. I'll write if I think of more.

How about at the end game where everyone has the tech tree researched, coordinated terrorism/emp wave/something sets every race back a random number of techs for each branch on the tech tree?

Each race would be set back the same amount, but that amount could be random.


I could see some sort of coup in one of the weaker races or in a powerful one causing them to become much more warlike and begin concentrating on conquest if they aren't already.

Well, if you ask...

• Beings that ascended many eons ago returned to our galaxy and were upset with constant war. They destroyed all ships and starbases.
  - They also changed energy levels of the universe in such a way that only the most basic weapons (particle beam, space cannon, sparrow, battlestations 1) and defenses (including 1st level of starbase defenses) could be used.
  - Another variant could be all knowledge about weapons and defenses would be wiped away, so players should start researching from the scratch, but building better weapons would be allowed when researched.



• Pan-galactic Pacifists secretly introduced a strange drug to crewmen of all existing ships, so they lost their sense to whom they belong. All ships and starbases randomly changed their owners.



• All scientist or engineers went on strike! All plansts produce only a square root of their production or research. Since strike is general, no purchases are allowed!



• Cold war squared! Spies cost only 1/10 of costs to train.

- I'd say it is easier to program a redistribution of all the planets to all the races, so everybody gets a random share of the total available planets. Should really throw the game out of control! All your productivity centres could be lost and you could inherit barren ones, hehe.



- Yes! Change their AI and give them some planets ("The citizens of the colonies surrounding the {MinorAI} have defected as they sensed a shift in the galactic power" or something to that effect). Or maybe the planets in their system get "terraformed" by them and become habitable, signalling their transition from Minor to Major races.

-Another suggestion, which might be a little radical would be that all races lose all their colonies and start again, maybe due to unforethought diseases found on new worlds , which evolution haven't prepared the colonists for, and medicines ineffective. (Think HIV transmitted by air... Scary thought.)

-A less radical suggestion would be that all the asteroid fields turn into planets, maybe because of a shift in the gravity constant. We already have planets turning into asteroids so why not the opposite!


- Another suggestions would be that a rich merchant has decided to give immense amounts of money/ships to a race... (Hmmm, wait that is not really a mega-event, and it does happen somewhat now)


- An event whereby the strongest empire becomes the weakest by stripping it all of its money and ships (or half of it) to be given to weakest race. That would give them a new lease of life. Reason: Tired of being always on top, and yearning for a challenge the captains of the fleet, cooperate and defect to the underdogs for some new challenges and learning a new culture.

Or how about, you have the Dreadlords appear who want to destroy everyone, but then later you can find an Arnor and the two races fight, allowing the other civs to go about their buisness or join in.
