Krynn v. Korath Tournament - KRYNN WIN!

Calling all metaverse generals

Korath v. Krynn Tournament

For the rest of April I'm running an unofficial tournament between these two races. All players who own DA are welcome and encouraged to participate.

The Scene

The Korath were part of the Drengin Empire, but their determination to exterminate non-Drengin life rather than enslaving them has made them even more dangerous as a foe. The Korath war machine has advanced mercilessly across the universe. Whole civilizations have crumbled under the unrepentant destruction of the Spore Ships. Chaos and doom reigned supreme.

The Krynn are here to bring order to the galaxy. Ynrhed Eidden called a council of war on Kryseth, homeworld of the Krynn Consulate. The Korath menace was analyzed, and determined to be the greatest threat to maintiaining peace and prosperity. Filled with righteous purpose, the Krynn military prepared for a sudden and massive attack on the Korath throughout the universe.

But would it be enough?

The Rules

Who Wins: The Race which scores the highest when the raw scores of all the submissions are added up at the end of the tournament will win.

Tournament Length: This Tournament runs from April 7th (the first shots have already been fired!) to April 30th. On May 1st I will post the results of the tournament.

Submissions: Every skirmish matters! To submit your score to the tournament, simply post to this message with a screenshot from your metaverse profile.

Only games with a date in the lower right hand corner that were submitted between April 7th and April 30th will be accepted. No cheat flagged games will be accepted. If there is a question about the validity of any score, it will be resolved by referring to that players official metaverse profile by me. For this tournament, only games played by the Korath or Krynn will be counted. Players are free to submit as many games as they choose as long as they are legal metaverse submissions within the appropriate date range.

So who will win? Brute force and genocidal zeal vs. defense, diplomacy and espionage! Your games will reveal the answer.

Good luck to all!

Final Standings
Krynn: 353,805
Korath: 326,450

The Korath put up a decent fight, but in the end couldn't muster a defense against the Krynn forces. The Korath threat has been contained, for now. Thanks to everyone who played!

The first shots have already been fired, and resulted in victory for the Krynn.

Good idea for a tournament! Too bad I don't have DA yet...

2 quick questions. Can you post more then one game? How do you take screen-shots?

To take a screenshot, hit the printscreen button which saves the screenshot to the clipboard and then you can paste it into Phtotshop or MS Paint. An easier way is to download a program like Hoversnap that will automatically save it as a .jpg file when you press printscreen.

Yes, you can post more than one game. Post as many as you like with these two races over the next two weeks.

Undaunted by the Krynn sneak attack, the Korath have already started to push back. Their first offensive was a decisive defeat along one of the smaller border galaxies.

Suicidal? That's incredible, you won 2 suicidal victories in 2 days.

I'm really trying hard to get a suicidal game in for this challenge, but I just can't seem to find a winning tactic. I get off to a good start but as soon as I wipe out the first guy I get a bad rep and pretty soon the entire galaxy declares war on me, even if I have a good military.

On the other hand if I play passively the other AIs just get so far ahead, even if I bribe them into constant conflict with each other.

My hat goes off to you guys who can win on suicidal, it's damn hard.

Any tips?

Yeah Wargazmo your beating the game on crippling thats not bad either fella. I play those levels all the time, but I lose them. I'm playing my games on Challenging, and if I feel saucy maybe I'll dip it into a container of tough.

I hear you with funding other AI's war machines. That is a risky tactic. I've learned to only do it when I'm about to get crushed and I need galactic chaos.

A small skirmish along outlying moons lead to a follow up victory for the Krynn. The Krynn morale has not been shaken by the quick and powerful response by the Korath. But the war is early, and has started slow. A few skirmishes on small, outlying systems will not decide the war. Strategists predict that the real fighting has not yet begun.

You want to avoid killing off your opponent for exactly this reason. You can offer him a peace treaty before you kill him totally off. Someone else will come along shortly to deal the coup de grace and you won't get labelled with 'tendency to conquer others'.

Actually one of the best things that you can do is to get them to accept a peace deal where they give you all of their remaining planets. This is like having your cake and eating it too. You need to have a major diplomatic advantage as well as a major advantage in military ranking to pull this off but it can be done. This usually works early before your opponents planets get too populous.

Well, winning a few games quick isn't so hard when you are playing with smaller maps. Two smalls and a tiny over a weekend is hardly an accomplishment to brag about... but I was busy entertaining my woman for much of the holiday.

As far as killing yourself to post a suicidal... not sure what to say. If you haven't done it before, I think it would be better to just go through a few games on a difficulty you are comfortable with. Quantity will probably outdo quality given that I'm just adding up the raw scores. And there is no shame in playing any difficulty level. Post cakewalk skirmishes if you want. This will still be an intersting tournament for me if only I post games, but I think it will be better for the metaverse as a whole if more people join in.

Good luck to everyone. There is still a lot of time left to post scores. The Krynn lead, but by a very slight margin so far.

Exactly my experience. In a last week I started 2 small games on suicidal, thinking suicidal can't be that far off maso. Despite the fact I had in both BIG advantage in number of planets, and even bigger in population (playing as Torians I have as much as all others together, but am still making only ~50% of Humans' money), that fact didn't matter a penny to AIs. In one game my entire empire of ~30 planets (I've eaten all but one of Korx's and 1/3 of Human's planets) can produce 600 TPs at 100% research, while just a single class 18 planet of Humans' produces 450, and their single Initial colony produces 39 TPs. Now beat that: I'm using Lasers-II, most AIs Anti-matter torpedos, and the war expands every 2 months.

My hat goes off to you guys who can win on suicidal, it's damn hard.

Signed.

Hi!
Krynn v. Korath Tournament - PLAY NOW!
...
This Tournament runs from April 7th to April 21st.

That's IMO way too fast. Not all players can play so fast you do. I'm currently playing Korath and am in a winnable position in a small maso game. But my game is far from over yet, and hollidays will be soon over. Playing only at evenings / nights I expect I'll finish it at the end of this week. My point: I'm playing about the speed most other players do. If you don't prolonge the ending date you'll have maybe 5 others submit games to your competiotion.

Hey, I'm happy to extend the time. I just wanted to run one to get my feet, see the response I got, and work out some of the problems. Problem one, perhaps, is too short a time frame. I have a few more of these planned, and only this first one is DA only, the rest will be open to DL/DA so there should be more people who can contribute.

What do people think? Want me to extend it to say the end of April. April 7th - April 30th, with tally and results posted on May 1? I'd be open to changing that, doesn't seem like it is unfair to anyone. Too bad I can't edit the first post...

Well, good luck all. I can't wait to see the results of some of the other battles raging out there!

Thanks Iztok. I didn't know I could do that. Well, now the main post can stay current and give information as things progress. I did extend this to the end of April. I look forward to seeing your contribution(s) Iztok.

Until we chat again sir, I bid you goodevening.

Alright, well just for you Metaverse Council members, I've also added a tag line for what you are doing to the top post. I look forward to your new bracket system.

I look forward to your new bracket system.

It will still be some time before this is available in it's final state but we're very close to being able to 'unveil' something for folks to get a look at and to comment on. As far as your tournament we'll be watching to see how much interest this generates. I do think it was a good idea to extend the timeframe, two weeks really isn't enough time to do it justice.

I also think it would be a good idea to give some advanced notice of these kinds of things. I for example am stuck in the middle of a gigantic abundant all game that will probably take me another two weeks to finish. If there was some advanced notice then folks could possibly have time to finish up their current game and might want to hold off starting something else if they want to participate.

All in all this probably isn't much different from what's been considered for the AltMeta, the only real difference would be to have a slightly more formal and automatic game submission mechanism as well as the possibility of the inclusion of medals from the tournament along with the more traditional medals.

In any case the council does hope that you have a good response to this.

I've started a game as the Krynn and should have it finished soon to post here.

WHAT? how did you score over 220,000 in 48 hours? that isn't even possible! i've been playing since Xmas, and all of my games combined are less than 220,000!!!! my highest score was 34,000 on a gigantic galaxy all abundant that took me more than three weeks to finish. you claim to have gotten 74,000 on a TINY!!!!! in a game that took you a few hours?? that is more than double my best score from a gigantic. How can you get so high on a tiny compared to a gigantic. how do we know you aren't cheating. it isn't even possible to get your scores. why should we want to enter a tournament with a cheater?

AND if you are running the tournament, oh great one, why do you get to play? isn't that unfair? why don't you just a run a me vs. all other players tournament and get over yourself.

seriously, stardock should figure out how wyndstar is cheating. it can't be possible to get those scores.

Sir,

Please don't try and hijack this thread. It is for the tournament. If I was cheating, my games would get a cheat flag. I'm not giving away cash prizes or anything, so no one is at a disadvantage if I play. I'm even splitting my games between the races, so in theory I should cancel myself out.

There is plenty of advice on these boards to help you improve your game. My scores are possible. There are people who have gotten scores of over half a million.

Good luck.
