I'm in a bad situation (DA Metaverse game,  I am considering retiring),  but I have a strong ally and my enemy (Terrans) do not have the optimum ship defences,  and my diplomacy is good,  and my economy,  but..., and..., ....

I had to put my tax rate to zero after the disease megaevent,  but some earlier events had increased trade incomes:

And you still have just 63% approval?

Wow. Now that's an unhappy population.

Wow, indeed!

Have never seen that.  The closest to it I have seen is when I hadn't yet learned to turn off auto upgrades and "stole" advanced farms and did not realize it.  My population overage drove down approval and I couldn't figure it out what was happening.  By then it was late enough in the game that I was trying to go quickly through turns and had rally dialed down my micromanagement.

Your population looks rather big, compared to your expenses. What kind of population are your worlds at?

You can always try to get your hands on morale resourses and build some morale structures on your planets.

And never give up. The greatest games are the ones you eventually pull out of the fire.

Quoting HighWater,
And never give up.

Actually,  I won this game (also had the plague megaevent later) finally.  There were many close battles so it was a good game;  my good economy allowed me to rush-buy many large-hulled ships on newly conquered planets.  I usually only give up when my ships are being destroyed without enemy damage/losses.

The disease/plague events cause much unhappiness while they exist.
