Getting new glasses....

It's been too many years.....should'a got 'em probably 5 years ago....but you know....you get slack/diverted/etc....

I've had them since I was about 15 .... I blame school/study for now having crap eyesight....used to be able to spot a Wedgie 2 miles up in the air currents [Aussies will know what that is]....but not anymore.

Needless to say things went downhill....getting the script....

First....the original optometrist has long-since moved on...so it's a new one....then they lost my history...all 40+ years of it.... then their computers went down... and their camera for photographing the back of the eye.....

Then they didn't have decent frames [as good as what I already had....] ...so I had to leave them with my 'clear' glasses....and I am now either stuck looking dimly through the prescription sunnies....[and turn up the brightness on the monitor]...or all fuzzy with the ancient glasses I never threw out...but really should....[they're NQR now]

So.... I got a week of 'making do' till the new ones are done [into the good frames] ...then go through much the same with the prescription sunnies....

And just the first lot cost me $440 so it'll be all that again for the dark lenses [polarised].

Actually....

I think I know why I waited so long....

Meanwhile....squinting at the screen typing this is an absolute pain....

It'll be quite politic if people 'tread softly' in my presence...as I am likely to strangle twits at the drop of a hat.....

....assuming I can see them....

I went with the laser option.  It's the way to be.

If you're one of the small percentage that it's actually suitable for....

Ditto.

Now, I had 'tears' in my retina fixed with laser. It's like someone trying to press their thumb on the back of your skull through your eyeball..for a really long time...over and over...

I should have known something was up when he pointed to the two hand-grips and said 'You may want to hold onto those.'

I went back three times.

I've decided I can live with the flashes of light and floaters. I'd rather pass kidney stones than sit through that shit again.

Quoting Sinperium,
I'm 20-250 in one eye and 20-400 in the other with astigmatism in one and not the other. They never match my lenses right. Been like that since I was 9 or 10.

It's a bummer.

Funny, have about the same vision in my eyes as well. Throw in astigmastism in both eyes and Nystagmus also in both, and you have my eyes. An-noy-ing!

If you're one of the small percentage for which it's actually suitable.

Bugged me...ending a sentence with a preposition.... Spell checker

And contact lenses aren't an option.... I can'teven put drops in my eyes without rubbing/applying by finger....

Wow, that is unfortunate.  Either your procedure was vastly different than mine, or the technology has changed since then, because it was nowhere near this bad for me.  The worst part was actually the ride home for me.  Ridiculous light sensitivity plus being car sick from having my eyes closed make for a rough time.

The only way Lasers are getting anywhere near my eyes, is if im shooting lasers out of them!!
I'll happily deal with glasses on my face then have my eyes lasered open and messed with. though i'm sure it's perfectly safe and all, my eyes are one thing im far to squeamish about to mess with.

Contacts would be ok, if you could put them in and they lasted for months on end. I could poke myself in the eye a few times a year, not..what, twice a day?

I felt exactly the same way up until my glasses broke in half in my hands while cleaning them.  I was practically blind without them, so I just snapped, and said "Screw it, warm up the lasers."

Ugh, i understand the frustration. I had one pair pop out a lens in a job interview and in a hurry to pick it back up and not look at all like a fool, i stepped on it. Broke the lens and didn't get the job.

This is why you get the new shape memory wire frames. You can nearly tie them in knots and they'll just bounce right back to the original shape.

Given that the laser surgery is irreversible and doesn't stop your vision from continuing to degrade, it seems pretty silly to do it. I'll hold out hope for some future treatment that just reshapes your eyes to be properly round without slicing and dicing things. Risking permanent vision loss over having to wear glasses is just insane.

Of what might be specific interest to Jafo, i just got back from Aust v Sri Lanka at the SCG......ugh, what a dismal game, did you catch it on TV? apart from Sangakara getting his 10k first class runs, it was one pretty poor night. If the Sri Lankans can continue that form, they may do alright....but our bowling was horrible....

OFC...the SCG bogan brigade didn't help matters....

Quoting kryo,

This. Might be some peoples cup of tea, all power to them, but ive had glasses on my face long enough now that i dont even notice them.

Jafo, i always loved this sound. If only the ships sounds in GC2 or SINS sounded like this....

Nah...friday night is 'beer oclock'....we all go out to dinner, etc.

By the time we get back we're three sheets to the wind so even watching cricket is a no-go...

This time next week I'm at Phillip Island for the World Superbikes ... so they'll all get away with 'murder' cos I won't be able to see them being naughty boys...

Pretty sure I won't have my specs before then...I head off on Thurs.

Not sure I can handle a lego version of Aliens.....

Tell me how you really feel...

A fair point, to be sure.  My thinking was along the lines of this.  My prescription hadn't changed significantly for over a decade, and it was such that I couldn't read large text that was further than 6 inches from my face.  If my eyes continue to degrade, that's fine, but at least I won't be utterly helpless if I don't have the fragile things loosely sitting on my face, and the risk of permanent vision loss was about the same for me as the chances of accidentally poking my eyes out with a stick.  I know I'll still need glasses later in life, but at least I won't be as bad off if something happens to them.

The racing may seem a bit "slower" with new glasse. Not everything is supposed to go by in a blur, especially if it's parked.

There IS no argument...... on equal machinery Rossi is STILL better than anyone else, he's even better than most on inferior machinery.

That's all I have to say on the matter...................
