Well.... note:
1: Complaints about bugs are less applicable since they've fixed a lot of them.
2: A lot of new ships has been added.
3: Content is expanding continuously.
One of the interesting features when I played last time was their weekly episodes - a new mission every week, in ongoing 'mini-series'. This is a fairly novel way to do things, and it works rather well.
Ship combat is also done quite well; ground combat is a bit more lackluster but it also has some good ideas and can be challenging due to the need for mobility and planning. (If you do it 'right' it'll be fairly fast and hectic, if not you'll have excruciatingly boring slugging matches.).
You will get as much or more value for money as with any regular game out of it, especially as a Star Trek fan. What I can't guarantee is wether you like it after a month.
