How would I patch to v2.01 if I have Windows 2000?

The problem with W2K is that when I use the obsolete Strdock, and try to update, it does not show any updates. The only wy would be to install Impule instead of StarDock, but Impulse doesn't install on W2K.

Has anyone got any advice (except updating the O/S) to get GCII:DA up to v 2.01?

Yes. Upgrade your OS. I know you said except, but...

Why are you still running W2K?

Just checking the options. I could upgrade but I wanted to know if there were any alternatives. If there are any, let me know

Win2k is much more efficient than any OS since and any OS prior except NT4.  I reluctantly moved to Beasta because it came pre-installed on my laptop, but was glad to move to 7.  I miss Win2k and regret support for it has been dropped.  It was a much leaner OS.  Games that run on Win2k and XP will tend to run with higher FPS on Win2k and run a lot smoother in general because of XP's relative bloat.

Agreed.

I found a way to get it to v2.01 on my W2K machine.

Here's the solution:

1. Download and install DA 2.01 via Impulse on a different machine (for example Win 7 Pro machine).

2. Go to the GalCiv2 folder on the Win2K machine and rename it (so if anything goes wrong you still have it).

3. Copy the whole GalCiv2 folder over to the Win2K machine where the renamed GalCiv2 is also located.

4. When starting, you need to re-activate or use the renamed GalCiv2's bin file that has the machine ID info in it so that you do not need to re-activate.

5. Run the program. It is now v2.01.

So, if anyone has Win2K and wants the latest updates then this is one way of doing it.

Turns out there was some instability by patching like this (one explosion post-battle crashed the game) so I ended up upgrading to XP professional and re-installing GC2+DA via impulse. It seems to run smoothly without the explosion crash issue now.
