Wow... Graphical style is awesome! It ain't cel-shading... is it? Well anyway it looks good. I have a few questions about moddability later.

Name and backround story don't seem special (hopefully story's well written and gripping and plot's full of twists)  but if the gameplay rocks and it's VERY flexible for modding (unlike GC2, that's just changing stuff really, not adding new abilities or anything), the game's gonna rock.

Hell yeah! A Stardock fantasy strategy game! I'm definitely intrigued by the "researching magic and technology" aspect.

My initial impression is, a heros of might and magic knock off.

Quoting Ackos,
My initial impression is, a heros of might and magic knock off.

Your initial impression is thin and/or mean. And probably better directed at HoMM5, horrible insult to its predecessors that it was.

Are you just sublimating frustration over the break between GC2 2.0 and GC3? I'm all over this new project, but I really do feel for my fellows here who have no taste for the fantasy genre.

I don't think it is anything wrong if Elemental is either a Heroes of MIght and Magic or Age of Wonders  or GC2 set in a fantasy kingdom knock off, afterall, it is a sci-fi/fantasy game and there are certain things to be expected.  When Lost Empire Immortals was coming out, my friend saw the trailer and said "man..can't people think of anything more original for the game's background premise, that there is a war because of some ancient divine powerful beings getting pissed off at each other, etc etc"  Well..i told him a lot of things in Sci-fi and fantasy has been done, the more important thing is for each time the game is being built, how a developer reinterpret those already done elements, that is more important.

I mean seriously, what are really the differences between Command and Conquer vs. Starcraft, if you strip down the game playing elements to its bare essentials.  The answer is, that the two are nearly identical.  But..ask anyone who have played both of these games, they probably tell you that the two games are as different as night and day, even though the premise of the game mechanics are very closely related to each other between the two.

The thing with Stardock, the first beta may be barebones, but the game will be in a playable state well before then, so it won't be as long as you think.

Plus the nice thing about the betas is that you get to influence the game itself with your suggestions.

I often lose interest in SD games after release and enjoy the betas more.

Stupid question: If I were to preorder the 32-bit version to get itno the beta, would I have to buy the 64-bit version again for when I upgrade my comp?

Quoting WIllythemailboy,

Given Brad's published regret that Windows 7 will even have a 32-bit edition, I have a hard time imagining him treating 64-bit as an expensive add-on. Plus, they've always been extremely supportive of aging rigs at no extra cost, so why start charging more for folks who are already spending more on their hardware?

Edit: I just pre-ordered a short while ago, and there was no 32-bit vs. 64-bit mention in the ordering UI. That makes me pretty sure you have no worries.

Ya know, i've been thinking... just staring at the snapshots found in Impulse (of a work in progress and yet, pretty sharp indeed) could very well convince me to participate in the looooong beta (a release for 02/10 is kinda far away) if only to acknowledge the superb overall graphics feel in that fantasy stuff by simply paying for the pre-release version.

I specially loved the entire artistic coloring sets -- softened but acute pastels and terracotta-like shemas - even the map in a circle is almost identical to what ProFantasy' cartographer program can output. Surprisingly, i also enjoyed the Not-MoM type of cards imaging, sort-of.

More so with the 'Blueish Dragon beast' battlefield with squares filled up by army groups and the catapult! Which also reminds me that this sort of 'isometric perspective' (or even the entire concept dynamics) on any given playing surface could fit the contract for an upcoming-somehow GCIII invasion process with Sci-Fi galactic inspired element(al)s!

Imagine a bunch of Korx defenders being surrounded by Thalans geared up with Plasma rifles & grenades, Tanks, planes... ahhhh. I dream of Jeannie. Or is it Jena?
