Gold edition - Should I play both campaigns?

Hey, I just got the gold edition but I never did the campaigns. I was wondering, Should I do the original campaign first before moving on to DA? Or would it be better off just to jump right in to DA's? Or should I skip the campaigns as a whole?

If you want to get the whole storyline behind the games, play through the campaigns, starting with the original and then moving on to Dark Avatar.

If you couldn't care less or if you just want to play Civ-style sandbox gaming, you can play either one. Dread Lords is easier, Dark Avatar is a bit more involved and has some changes to it that make me prefer it (such as super abilities, new races, better ship designer).

I've always intended to play the campaigns, but I'm not patient enough. So I just stick to sandbox gaming.
