Impulse is doomed!

Long live Steam

By Posted June 18, 2008 15:45:48
I admit I haven't tried out Impulse. But why bother? I already have Steam. What would anyone want another program for getting games? You guys should just get your stuff on Steam and give it up. Can you give me even one reason why anyone in their right mind would want to use Impulse instead of Steam? 90% of the game market on computer is Valve's games. You're never going to get Counterstrike or Team Fortress on Impulse so what are you hoping to accomplish? You're just creating confusion.

ooh dear god, what to do, what to do, stardock is doooooomeed.

Now seriously, there are alot of good talk about stardock that will draw alot of people into using impulse. Impulse is just starting, so ill bet you any amount that they will succeed.
Plus Impulse will be much more then just some game launcher.

Also why must steam be the only one? why cant we have some sort of competition?

looks like we have new fans..

Since I don't play games is it all right for me to have Impulse?
June 18, 2008 16:05:02
What the heck is Steam anyway?

I just use Stardock utilities, apps, and games. The last games I bought were the original Half-Life series, the Jedi Knight series, and the Dungeon Siege 2 and expansions.

With every new post like this that I see I have to wonder how it is the OPs can manage to type so clearly when they apparently cannot read the fact that Impulse is not for games only.

Personally, I only downloaded Steam to try out the free Half-Life 2/Portal stuff that came with the new NVidia drivers. I don't currently own any Valve games.

I do own GC2, it's 2 expansions and Sins of a Solar Empire. I don't think I can update those games via Steam Impulse is brand new, give Stardock time and I think they'll give Valve a run for their money.

PS: I'm glad to see Impulse is offering the Penny Arcade game... WOOT!

FYI, you are a tard. If you had tryed Impulse, you were entitled to your opinion. But since you openly admit that you haven't tryed it. Why even bother to post anything?!

Impulse is not just a game distribution platform. But just as Steam is for Valve, Impulse deliver Stardock's products in an awesome interface. They just happen to open it for third-party. And their approach to DRM is more future proof, and user-friendly then what Valve offer with Steam.

Nuff said!

Add this one to the list of ignorant naysayers convinced that Impulse is nothing more than a games portal.
I'm as games-happy as the next guy and own my own copy of Valve's Orange Box as well as a host of others, all purchased and managed through the Steam client which is quite happily -wait for it- coexisting with Impulse on my computer. DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN HOW CAN THIS BE!??!

Both applications and the content they manage are diverse enough that they can both happily live together without too much fuss. I just wish these uneducated gamers would see the bigger picture.

This post is a "plant" to get people to stand up for Impulse - right?
June 18, 2008 17:00:47

I think the SD folks could pound out a more aticulated Plant post than ive seen being posted so far..

Besides why ? trolls are abundant on the internet these days...

I don't know why I'm responding to this, but if I install Steam (which I'm not) how would I update all my Stardock apps?

I wish.  I'm seeing posts like these all over the net.  I don't get it.  Why would anyone not want to have choices?

June 18, 2008 17:23:33
i guess impulse is like the new kid in school, first people are like hmm, but after some time they get used to him/it

Impulse is still young so im awaiting with expectations to see what it will have in store for the future

Also the ranking stuff it will have for games will be interesting to see

90% of the game market on computer is Valve's games.

A couple little companies like Blizzard, EA, and some other *really* small ones might differ with that assertion

Impulse is to me a handy all in one Manager. If i played games much any more I would test that side out. but as Im retired from gaming I have not got in to it. I run it for the desktop customization software, and it works beautifully. I love being able to manage al my purchases in one handy application and still be able to utilze it for looking for new purchases etc.

Any body who cant see past the gaming aspect (which I read is very cool) is sorely missing out on the extras built in. GO read the full posts of its capabilities before judging it.

I don't get it.  Why would anyone not want to have choices?

IMHO too much laziness to get rid of their own ignorance (they don't see the difference and don't bother learning). Maybe a some sort of simple pro/con list could do the trick... at least for some of them.

That's one question I'd like to ask certain energy company execs.

Well I'll be damn! A spin-off from "Steam Will Own You!"

Since I don't play games is it all right for me to have Impulse?

No further words needed!

Excellent question!

Add this one to the list of ignorant naysayers convinced that Impulse is nothing more than a games portal.

Again, no further words required!

Amen bro!

I'm out, this is another waste of bandwidth although I was fairly entertained!

You do realize that Valve's publisher for in-store games is EA right?
