I designed a ship in my current sandbox game, which is the first ship I'd like to post on the forums. It's the first ship I've designed to look completely unrelated to it's base hull. It does not use KHSM(making it fully metaverse-legal), and in fact uses only 5 extras. It's a Terran medium hull which represents what I imagine us humans to actually make space warships look like when we eventually have to militarize space(against aliens or against ourselves) - water-based ships. Although I actually expect humans to make space warships which resemble submarines, I couldn't put together a decent looking submarine design, so I made the medium hull 'Katana-Class' hunter-killer surveyor instead.

Of course, the ship was designed in 2008, so I'm not going to put it in last year's thread. Feel free to put your more recent ship designs here.

It's a DA ship, which is too bad. If I had TA, with it's rotating parts, the front turret could have actually been made to spin. (

Details: The ship design isn't a warship of the line. No, that role would of course be taken by huge hulls. This thing is designed to speed around killing freighters, constructors, starbases, transports, small fighters, flagships, etc. in times of war. Of course, everyone in my present game(at the time when the design was created) was either allied to me, part of my empire(culturally conquered), or allied to me and undergoing a peaceful integration into my empire. In fact, I hadn't yet invaded any planet at all, though I had flipped about 60% of the the galaxy. So far, the Iconians, Korx, Altarians, Yor, Torians and Exploitrons have all fallen in this manner. This leaves only the Drengin and Thalan independent, protected for now by a freak 'native cultural power' event.

But every time an evil empire finally gave in to my culture, their warships would go astray as pirates, with no fleets and no bonuses supporting them. This threatened slow-moving constructors and space miners working in the region, and called for a ship to mop up the pirates. So I upgraded my aging, obsolete, neglected Terran Alliance Flagship, which had eventually given up it's survey duties to smaller, zippier ships and was lying unnoticed in the orbit of Iconia 5. These smaller ships were now outclassed by the Katana and retired to picket duties.

The ol' Flagship already had the anomaly plating, HP-booster techs, and Xinathium required to kill any pirate-ized frigate using the tie-rule exploit, and with a bit of experience and another layer of anomaly plating, it could kill off a pirate battleship using the same exploit.

It's so far done it's anti-pirate duties as expected, and though it will probably never make up for it's upgrade costs, it's already paid off several years worth of maintenance with 1000 bc and 250 bc anomalies. No ships of the Katana class were actually ever built, with only my flagship's upgrading and renaming taking place. The new name was derived from Douglas Adams' Life, The Universe and Everything:

"But while these spaceships, and other great ones come to mind, such as the Galactic Fleet Battleships-the GSS Daring, the GSS Audacity and the GSS Suicidal Insanity-are all spoken of with awe, pride, enthusiasm, affection, admiration, regret, jealousy, resentment, in fact..."

although these are both on the stickied ship design page, since they are both made in 2008 I will post them here too. they have no names or backround yet. I"m still working on the whole fleet for my new race. So yeah..no names, backround, or even hull size has been picked for these. Any suggestions for naming or function, let me know!

Here's an Iconian ship. I couldn't think of a decent name, so I just call it a 'Heavy Cruiser'.

BTW, the above ship is a Large hull, and not made with KHSM. I used the ingenious starter block the game provides.

What the hell is a 'Pulse Cannon'? Or a 'Seeker Missile'. Never heard of a missile with only 1 attack. I guess it has to be quite small space-wise to compete with the Stinger(which, incidentally, was invented by the Yor ).

The 'Seeker Missile' is an Iconian-exclusive tech. It's inexpensive, (for a missile), but it takes up a lot of space. The 'Pulse Cannon" is a mid-level mass-driver tech. I guess it's only aviliable to certain races, sence you haven't seen it.

"Hedgehog" Terran Troop Transport

A unique-looking landing craft, identified by its four secondary thrusters mounted on the underside, two each fore and aft. The thruster are omni-directional and can pivot up to 90 degrees on two planes of rotation. This directional movement allows the Hedgehog to both maneuver through urban environments and support ground forces, and most importantly, engage in atmospheric free-fall and in under 45 standard seconds, decelerate to a safe landing. Layers of thick armor protect the Hedgehog, allowing it to break planetary blockades and endure defensive ground fire, while transporting its two standard troop modules worth of soldiers 'dirtside'.

"Albatross" Terran Freighter

The Albatross is the name given to the chassis and engine of most Terran freighters. The frames are always heavily modified to fit whatever sort of freight job the particular ship is assigned to do. As a result, no two ever look the same. The most common non-standard part of the Albatross fleets is the addition of the multi-ribbed heavy armored plating, protecting extremely fragile cargo from micrometeorite impacts that plague most freighters as they unload in orbital dock. The ribbing is retractable for access to the cargo underneath. Most standard cargo, however, is either directly attached to the hull in cargo containers, or secured to the underside of the freighter.

The relative success of the Dolphin Scout, led the Terran government and Krupp Heavy Industries to explore the possibility of a military version based on the same hull. The result was the Orca Class Heavy Fighter. Orca upgrade kits were initially offered for field modification of existing Dolphin Scouts but since 2227 all of Krupp's new production has been various models of Orca. The following photos of the ORC-002 Orca Touris are provided for hull recognition purposes. Know the Orca by it's identifying dorsal "fin," cockpit nose structure, and of course note the twin turboguns mounted aft of the dorsal fin on either side.

Also new combat photos from FltComSouth. Super Peregrine IIs in action.

(made with the TA Game without Hullmod etc)
I wanted a fragile Look for it,as it should be for Birds

"made for my Custom Race of Humanoid Birdspecies (stil looking for a Name ^^)"

How about these:

Xenon Imperium

Rap'tar Theocrocy (since 'raptor' means 'bird of prey')

And now for the ships:

Although the Arceans had friendly relations witht the Empire, it was clear that this would not last long if it lacked a navy, as the Arceans were notorious for their thrist for power and glory. Employing the latest laser technologhy as well as coutermeasers to defend against Arcean missiles, the F-32 Schimitar would stave off attcks until a proper navy could be established. (I made this for a custom race, the United Earth Empire, but I chose the Terrans by mistake when starting my latest game, which explains the owner.)

Dartfish Class light frigate:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/>

As soon as I downloaded the new TA beta, I started a Huge map game playing as the Terrans with three opponents. I got medium scale building pretty early, and designed the Dartfish to deal with the Drengin, who were beginning to hate me and were on my southern border. War eventually did break out, with the Torians jumping in on my side. I sent three sqaudrons of Dartfishes to attack the nearest Drengin planet, but as soon as they cleared it, they were attacked by swarms of Super Dominator corvettes, but held thier own destroying nearly every one while I only lost a few. I eventually captured the planet, and since my soldiering was higher, the green apes were having a hard time taking mine, they aggreed to a cease-fire, and our war was over. However, it doesn't end there. The Torians now have high-end missiles, and are tearing Drengin ships apart and taking thier planets one-by-one. The Grengin should surrender in a few months, if not weeks.  since the Torians will soon be the new bullies on the block, I've started researching missile defences and better miniaturization.

(I know one of the coils is backwards; I'll fix it later.

I don't know of the Seeker Missile, Pulse Cannon, Kinetic Streams and Scatter Blaster weapons, among lots of other stuff, because I don't have TA. I probably won't be getting TA for quite a while now, since I'll get Sins of a Solar Empire in it's place.

I've designed a Huge-hulled version of the Katana design which I'll post next time I hook my laptop up to the 'net. My next ship design project is to create a replica of an Advent capital ship to as far extent as I can(which isn't much).

After the Drengin surrendered, I designed the Katana class (sorry for the stolen name, Pesky.) to combat my new potential enemies. Only one was built, the Torians aggreed to an alliance the next turn, netting me the most satisfying diplomatic victory EVER!

Yes, I would hate to have to be the one who had to repair it.
Although it is no match for your ultra cool invisible ship!

Wow! Nice designs!

I thought I'd share a couple of mine. Nowhere near as good, but I thought they were pretty cool.
