Hi all and welcome to round 5!!

Congrats to the Domination of Death for a well played victory in round 4!! :CONGRAT:

Everyone please welcome our six new players, Defcon13, Velkyn Kyil, GalenEvil, Almaric Iztok Bitenc and RexDaddy. I have placed you guys into teams. Domination (team D) please welcome GalenEvil and RexDaddy, Eternal Villainy please welcome Velkyn Kyil and Iztok Bitenc, Blade Runners please welcome Defon13and Crusaders please welcome Almaric. Captains, make sure to Pm your new players their core passwords please. (I still can't believe i forgot you Defcon...sorry again mate.)

We lost Vilgan, Doombringer and Drengin in round 4. I hope to see these guys playing with us again soon. (Noticulus and Xei Win Toh have abstained from playing till further notice.)

Ok, onto round 5.

We are after an Influence Victory in a Tiny Galaxy with 4 Opponents.

Settings are,
Habitable planets - Abundant
Number of planets - Common
Number of stars - Uncommon
Star Density - Tight Clusters
Anomolies - Common
Asteroids - Uncommon
Tech Rate - Fast
Minors - Random/Enabled in DL

Disable Tech Trading
Blind Exploration (Check the box. No seeing AI sphere's of influence.)
Allow Mega Events
Disable Super Abilities
All Victory's Enabled
Allow Surrenders

Round 5 ends Midnight 13th January 2008.

Two slight rule changes for round 5.
Ties for fastest game will now be broken by score. So there will only be 4 points given out for fastest game, regardless of the number of games with equal time.

Ties for high score will also be limited to the 4 points. These will be broken by game speed. In the event of double ties (equal speed and score) points will be given, regardless of number. (These rules are not yet official and may be omitted from the round. It has had discussion but no closure. If there is no objection than these rules will apply for this round.)

We will use the Round 5 thread for our discussions, plus the submission's. Looking back through one thread is far easier than looking back through many threads and posts.

For any discussions on rules please post in the MVL Rulebook thread.

Also there is a discussion about our inclusion into the AltMeta here, The MVL and the AltMeta. Please watch this thread for more discussion soon.

There's no requirement for you to submit any screen shots. The last thing in this thread that mentions screen shots was FB's request for Neilo to post a screenshot of the game selection page to avoid confusion.

Certainly no one is requiring folks to put up a screenshot of their setting's and in any case your word is good, just as the word of any MVL member is good.

I don't think he meant for us to take screenshots, just instead of writing out the round settings in the op Neilo could just take a screenie of the galaxy setup screen and it would show us all the settings we need with no mistunderstandings.

I think at least till Neilo makes a ruling we should just treat that setting as we see it this round and if the screenie is adopted in the future we will no longer have this problem.

I guess my understanding of the issue at the moment, and for such a simple thing it has gotten a little confusing..but, to ENABLE Blind Exploration one would need to check the box. So since i wrote the OP with that in mind i think leaving it as it it for this round would be best. We have had submissions already and as long as we all play the same game then no harm is done.
We will need to experiment with that setting and check it's actual meaning.

To avoid confusion in the future i will do as FB suggested and post links to screenshots(we don't need them cluttering up the OP) plus i will say check instead of enable/d for settings that are a little ambiguous.

What i'd like to be sure of though, is how have the submitted games played this setting? And, if there is a few on either side of the fence, is it that much of an issue, was an advantage gained?

I don't think there would be.

In BOTH Dread Lords and Dark Avatar if you CHECK the Blind Exploration box that means you can NOT see the spheres of influence of the AI. This would mean that Blind Exploration has been ENABLED. A DISABLED Blind Exploration box will allow you to see the influence spheres. Hope this helps.

Absolutely. This should be left as you intended for this round. However I still don't know which way was your actual intent. There have been at least four people say at least three different things each. As I requested earlier please update the OP to indicate whether the blind exploration box should be checked or whether it should be unchecked. There is no point in debating the meaning or intent just tell us clearly and consisely. Check or no check.

Don't bother with this, it merely adds even more confusion. I assume there will be some on both sides and I also assume that it really doesn't matter all that much. Just make it clear how you initially intended it at the start of this round and we'll accept games already played or submitted "as is". However for those starting a game or playing another game it should be played correctly.

At this point I even forget which way I played my first game.

I have been waiting in vain for a clear answer to this all day so that I can start another game. At this point there is *way* more wordage on this issue in the thread than the issue warrents. At the risk of repeating this for at least the fourth or fifth time, please update the OP and the issue is instantly over.

As I understand it, those who Enabled blind exporation (who checked the box) were playing against the current round settings but had a slight disadvantage for doing so. I will admit that in my current game I'm one of those with the slight disadvantage. It's tremendously slight, however. Therefore, at this point let's just drop the issue.

If screenshots are given in the OP, and if it's not too much work for Neilo to do this, then problems like this won't arise. Again, though, this is the slightest of problems that we could have at this point.

Yep. This will do it. Sorry to make a mountain out of a molehill but once this goes back and forth a couple times in the thread it becomes virtually impossible to untangle it. A quick edit to the OP by the commissioner puts an immediate stop to all of the uncertainty. Thanks.

The screenshot was kinda correct(except for the "force AI to use CPU Intensive algorithms). But if there is any confusion still, the GCII manual addresses the misconception well. :)

Just bringing to the attention of the MVL that I have sent repeated messages to Velkyn Kyil and have had no response, it is still early in the round so I'm not calling for action yet, but the Eternal Villainy may again end up being just a 4 man team. Y'know...I may have to ask Neilo to stop assigning new players to me, I must just come off to gruff or something

Dont wet your panties just yet SilverBeacher. ;) Your team is probably good for the submission-time bonus already. I've got 2 of my team members MIA at the moment, but it is less than a week into the round. Most everyone will show up at some point.

lol, its more of a communication issue, i check to see if people have even logged in on the GC site. Two members of my team are generally very quiet and I won't even hear from them until they are ready to submit, but I know they are there. Like I said its still early and I am more than willing to welcome Velkyn to my team; I am ALWAYS for increasing and furthering the MVL; just that I get....frustrated...when any individual, my team or otherwise, seems to just disappear or not appear at all.

There may be a problem here. This is my game and I'm getting a Metaverse Error 12 upon trying to post it. I've started another map, so we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

ferrel are you using the 1.80f or 1.80g builds? If you are, was the game you played from an older build- if yes, just try (sadly) a new game. If you are receiving a Error 12 and you are NOT using the 1.80f or 1.80g, save the exe and dll files in a safe folder and use Cari's upgrade....basically, 1.80e was supposed to fix the Error 12 issues that were happening in the earlier DA builds. A side effect of this was that people who weren't getting the Error 12 before now were but those that were, are now not (does that make sense?) and then due to some back porting issues and code changes the path finding bug came into existence. Anyhow, these were fixed it seems in 1.80g, but, it seems that games from older builds won't submit to the MV.

neilo and i have been using the 1.80g for the last week or so and so far, seems like the most stable version of DA that's been made available, the only drawback is not being able to use old games, which to some individuals, may be a big issue.

Cari has a fix that allows older saves to submit. Email/pm her and tell her your problem and she will sort you out, unfortunatrly it did not work for me but maybe you will have better luck, though i do believe i can submit new games.

And the G build is great, no pathfinder or anything, it is the most stable build yet...agreed!
