Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

If your claws can grasp it, then it is rightfully yours. - Kzinti proverb

A salute to all those heroic t'kzintar who have made this empire a resounding success. Our conquests continue and the galaxy will never know peace!

Another great victory was won for the empire today....congrats to CraigHB! :CONGRAT:

Congrats on the racial medal, KP! I didn't look through your profile, so I missed the Drengin thing. Nice catch, SB! I was using my Torian game as a test bed for a new tactic.

Thanks. :D What's the new tactic you experimented with?

I'm on the edge of my seat dying for news on what entails on the espionage overhaul that 2.0 has. Then again, the news that the fantasy game will go into Beta in the spring has caught my eye more.

I'm eagerly and impatiently awaiting not-MoM too, more than any game for a long time! It's been what, about 15 years since MoM? If only it were coming out sooner...

Not an extremely groundbreaking experiment, but with the lack of enemies (only 9), I tried to develop a sort of "major minor". My goal was to turn as many minors as I could into capable enemies so I could harvest their production with a few well placed super-transports.

I gifted some key techs and my homeworld (Toria) with some hardware in the queue to a minor. Unfortunately, he just sat there and drooled while only taking up the extra real estate. No warships, production, colonies or anything to make him a threat.

Yeap, it's absolutely unbelievable how several companies have failed to come up with an alternative to MoM in those 15-or-so years. At least all the similar games I've seen so far had only better graphics but were by far inferior in terms of gameplay, variation, etc. Many even felt like failing clones in spite of being 10 years newer.

In my swindle games, any time I steal a planet with at least 2 factories, I set it to build colony ships.  I get the galaxy colonized pretty quickly this way.  Minors should be souped up in some way at least a little bit.

Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, Lords of Magic, and Heroes of Might & Magic were all good, but not close to what I want out of a MoM sequel.

edit:  These new forum changes need some work.  Quotes are screwed up, I had to redo my empire logo, the style of the smilies is garish, and medals are gone again.  I like the variety of the new smilies, but I like the simpler design of the old ones.

Absolutely true, quotes are simply unreadable now.

I must say I've never tried Age of Wonders or Lords of Magic. I tried 1 or 2 releases of the HoMM series and I wasn't impressed.

The best HoMM was the third one...my friends and I especially liked that it had hotseat play.  We had a lot of awesome battles! :)  The first two were pretty good, 4th one sucked, and the fifth one was decent.   Lords of Magic is quite old, and I dont think it was very well known.

They're all older games Seth, a little before your time.  Although HoMM V came out maybe 3 or 4 years ago, so not too long.

Silver, I think since HoMM is abandonware now, you could probably download it somewhere.  We could even get a hotseat game going on the net. :)  Did you hear about the HoMM 3.5?  After IV came out and pretty much sucked, some players in Russia got together and wrote a whole bunch of new code for III.  It's called Wake of the Gods, and was really excellently done....definitely check it out!

Remember the Cloak of the Undead King?  I played a huge map once, just trying to see how many liches I could accumulate.  I think I made it up to about 120k  of them!  }:)

I'dliketoaskeveryone a question,  I ask myself, when GC3 come out will I see anyone here in the GC3 forums and will any ofthe GC2 Metaverse empires be there. Does anyone else ask this?

i think about it sometimes.  GalCiv III is at earliest 2010; but i am sure I'll still be around.

I DO know one thing; when GC III comes out, and whatever multiplayer format (whether just te MV or something more) comes with it, I'm recruiting KP off the bat to be my communications director

@KP: yeah, i wish i had gotten the two expansions for III, and then i heard about 3.5.   I'll have to do some looking this week; it really was one of my favorite games.   I wish I had my old files, I spent months working on this one scenario that was just kick ass.  It was about how this empire had crumbled and an evil Archmage had taken control of your northern territories and had even seemed to ensnared your Elven friends into his schemes.  It was pretty sweet.

...but if there is a MV for GC3, then you and I should definitely collaborate, Silver. ;)  Klingon Empire perhap?

The HoMM III expansions were awesome.  Armageddon Blade and Shadow of Death both rocked the house!  One of my favorite things is mega-artifacts you could build from smaller artifacts.  The Cloak of the Undead King allowed necromancers to raise liches instead of skeletons after a victorious battle.  Hence my 120,000 liches I was able to assemble.  A way overpowerd artifact, but a ton of fun. :D

in a final note baout HOMM III; did you ever come across the Behemoth bug-where the AI's behemoths (already strong as hell) would multiply exponentially?  I remember one time I attacked the AI and they had over 15000 Ancient Behemoths, needless to say I died.

I never saw that happen.  You couldnt win!?  C'mon thats an easy battle.  You would need to sharpen your skills to take me on. ;)

lol maybe you are forgetting that the Ancient Behemoths negated 80% of your defensive ability; even using unh...Implosion (the strongest single stack spell) at power levels of 75+ i could usually only manage to kill off a few thousand.  I think one time I was able to use my Archangels to prolong the battle (using Resurrect) but yeah

on the other hand, i always was terrible at using any force other than the Castle or Rampart armies; though I could muddle through with the Tower forces.   And i'm really off topic of GC. haha

Yep, I remember....I was just taunting you. }:)    But...depending what sort of hero you were facing, it might be possible to win by judicious use of magic, if your own hero was high enough level, and a good caster.  Use slow, weakness, disrupting ray, curse, and other disabling spells to neutralize the behemoths, while using hasted creatures with range and no-strike back ability like master vampires or harpies to whack them.  Use the haste/slow combination to keep out of their reach, and raise dead or resurrection to bring your troops back.  Having expert earth & air magic would be pretty important too.

My favorite armies are Necropolis, Castle, Rampart, & Conflux.  Conflux is mostly elementals, and were an addition in the Armageddon Blade expansion.

Any topic of discussion is fine in this thread....especially anything about gaming! ;)
