The Human Factions Mod needs you!

The Human Factions mod is a mod for DL made by me that replaces the current races with present-day Earth countries, which you can download from the library. I am also in the process (kind of) of writing a back story, which you can find in the official mod forum.

I have been trying to update the mod for DA, but RL has been rather hectic with exams and whatnot, and whilst it has calmed down now, I want to get this mod out ASAP. So that's why I need your help!

The DA version of the mod will basically be a pack of custom races, the list of which you can find in the forum I linked to above. I have done a couple but I need you to help.

You don't even have to know XML, but just be able to use the in-built custom opponent feature. I will supply flags and portraits, you just have to flesh it out.

If you're interested, just post here or PM me, and I will send you the material you need. Your reward will be full glorification and a free towel.

I want to read more of your backstory
Once you've done that, I can start to formualte my own plans on how the Celtic peoples of "Britain" seperated themselves from the English, and went on to thier own colonies.

And if you have Gorden Brown still as their leader ( would be odd if the scots left ),I can then formulate my plans of making war against that damned socialist. ( mwhahahahah )

I could try and design some ship templates in the editor, though can't promise that they'd be any good.

I'm part-way through writing part 2 and may release it to coincide with the release of the DA version of the mod.

I could try and design some ship templates in the editor, though can't promise that they'd be any good.


It's not really ships, but races I need. I may send you some Celtic pics so you can make the Celtic races if you want.

I would keep scenarios generic and not identifiable to Real Races Past or current. Its an association Game Developers avoid like the Plague, same goes for Religion. Both those topics can ignite Huge Bush Fires, and nasty vitriol as inevitably someone takes it to heart, ignoring that it is a game. Its then downhill from then on to obscurity.

Sid - aka Civilization Series - takled Religion very very carefully for Civ IV. They wanted to use the actual names to give a semblence of reality to the backdrop of Religion in the game. However, they were very very careful to ensure that each Religion was dealt with in exactly the same way, and no one Religion could be seen to be omnipotent in its own sake. Even then, they got 3 months of grief after release from those whose Religion was not included.

Humans are funny folk, and when it comes down to it, very illogical and emotional.

Just a thought - I'd hate to see all your hard work be immersed in a sea of controversy. I would suggest that real Races have a backdrop that looks to the future out there in the Universe and does not mention anything to do with their past - the latter is a short road to Grief from the silly nit pickers.

I think you're right to an extent, but it still needs to have a real world grounding. As long as you don't have something like the UK race referring to French as Cheese eating surrender monkeys Or somesuch, I think you're fine.
My welsh Custom race for this mod will make reference to the 700 years of control the English have had over us, and how in the late 20th century we began to regain our own political independence.

Nit pickers only cause grief if you pay them any notice, and they don't have to use the mod if they find such minor things wrong. If they like the mod but not the history, it's easy enough for them to change themselves.

No, I don't think that'll happen. This is a mod, and that was a game. If it does, it will just be a few stupid people. Nothing to worry about, I'll reckon.
