OK as stated before I updated everything known to man on my puter EXCEPT 1 thing... After doing some reading regarding the HResult 0x8007007E that seemed to be a common error, seemed the problem was in 2 areas ... MS .net and and didnt hit me til hr ago DirectX...

Like I said i reinstalled etc .net several times upgraded to 3.0 ... trial and error keep it at 2.0..

Now for the grand finale DirectX.... I by a last ditch hunch I installed DirectX9 SDK and well seems that was the original issue all along....I can now open all maps etc no problems at all... Here's the download link to what I installed....

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=371f6ba4-2737-46ab-b275-0dcab31459b5&DisplayLang=en

Go figure it had to be simple but elusive......

Actually, downloading the dx sdk is not a real solution. But it proves, that something must be wrong with the dx dlls delivered with galciv2ide, Since they are copies of the dll included in sdk. Therefore, if all works correctly, there wouldn't be the need to download sdk(~400MB). However, if it runs now, that is good news, temporariliy

Temporarily just means, I still have to find the error, but you got it running.
You can go with the sdk, but it was not intended that people have to download the quite big sdk

I googled for the "HRESULT 0x8007007E" error message.

The supposed solution is, to download MS DxWebSetup and all should be fine.

Please, to all who have this problem, and didn't download the directx sdk as suggested earlier, give some feedback if the downloadlink helped.

Thats where I got the idea for the dxsdk..... uninstalled the dxsdk (not easy) and did the websetup etc... all is still fine tho noticed some programs actually slowed a bit... Kinda felt like the sdk sped up several programs and a few games....not sure why

Ok.. i looked @ the map editor.. looks VERY good..

BUT man.. being honest.. make a RANDOM MAP GENERATOR..

I don't care if it is not equal to what the game itself can do.. just that it does it somewhat ok...

This would allow me to make a map easier a just tweak what i want (i loved that about galciv 1)

So, what can be done?
Starnames... I don't want to name all my stars....

Thanks

Starnames are coming with 1.0.6.7, they'll get randomly read from stars.txt, if starname left blank, planets & asteroids will be named accordingly to parent star's name
Concerning a random mapgen, I'll think about it after the new DataEditor module is done.

I downloaded that and it wont work. It says something about my network connection. Also the map editor program will not even start up i just get some fatal error.

Kryo, do you know how the galaxy setup(aka rare...to...abundant) works? Are these percentage values of the overall value, eg. # of Stars= common =^ 50% of a max val of stars for this mapsize ? Same with Habitable Planets. Or are these fixed values, and if what are the max stars(planets) for a given mapsize, in terms of gameengine?
An example:
MilkyWayMap

Stars:220
Planets:76
AsteroidFields:98

The question aims at random galaxy creation, does the example come close to possible MaxValues?

When I execute the ap GalCiv2IDE, I get a window entitled "Options". Two “enable mod” options are selectable. The “dark avatar installed” and “select mod folder” options are grayed out (I have DA installed.) Regardless of what I select I get a window entitled "GalCiv2IDE" that says GalCiv2IDE has encountered a problem…. The ap never starts. I’m running XP home service pack 2, Net Framework 3.0, direct X 9c.
Any one know what’s up?
