How much do the AI's trade in-between?

The AI's are quite reluctant to trade with the player. Do they trade equally little in-between?`

I've heard the AI's don't discern between the player and other AI's. Is this true, and does it go for trading as well?

Yes and yes. They're very stingy, yet generous (ie, willing to pay lots of money if they're offering)

If you look in the debug.err file in the installation directory after a game, it lists all the tech trades in there and you can see exactly what the AI traded and with whom. Remember that diplomacy ratings have a significant influence on how good a deal you or the AI will get, so you may perceive that some race gets "preferential" deals, but most likely they just have v good diplomacy.

I find the AI very willing to trade non-military techs with me; they'll also pay through the nose to get military techs themselves (and trade come to that), but be very reluctant to trade them in the opposite direction. Trading some tech to the AI early on is often all that stops me from having to cut-back my output from 100%.
